“Not so nice,,,”

$18 taxi ride from the airport -- nice view of the harbour (but not from my room), and good wifi (an extra $10), but no breakfast or hot water, a rather dingy room, no bottled water, and bad TV reception - in other words, not worth the $55 charge. I tried to stay an extra hour in my rooom but was told to leave by noon since other guests would be coming -- but I didn't see any other guests the whole 24 hours I was there.

Great location in the heart of Marigot - a stone's throw from the city center and the Marina Royale where you can have a decent meal from the many restaurants on the marina. The guest house is not fancy but will provide you a great base from where you may walk to everything in Marigot. I'd stay here again.

We knew we were arriving in St. Martin one day before our condo was available so I searched for a decent place to stay for one night. I was happy to find a place in Marigot since it would give us a chance to spend a night on the French side. It was a $15.00 US cab ride from the airport. Its located on a very unpretentious street above an auto parts store. The best part is the huge open deck area that looks out on the Marigot Marina. Its only a few minutes walk to the Marina which was lively the Thurs. night we were there. First we had drinks at the Brasserie de la Gare, followed by a lovely dinner at the St. Germaine, and then followed up with a nightcap and dancing at the Gecko Cafe. We wandered back and slept quite well in our room which provided all the basics. ( If you demand a pillow top mattress its not for you). There was a window box air conditioner but we didn't use it. We enjoyed the occasional car speeding by or hearing the roosters crowing. Fantastic value and we wouldn't hestitate to return.

The Fantastic Guest House is a three story hotel over an auto parts store in the Rastafarian section of town. The street is narrow and congested, but I never felt unsafe; traffic moves slowly. The entrance to the Guest House is on the side; you walk up a set of stairs to the main area which has a cute tiny swimming pool and a gorgeous shaded patio with stone floors, tables & chairs, overlooking Royale Marina. Sitting on this patio is worth the price of "admission"; it's truly lovely. The room we had was a little more than adequate; it had a private bathroom and I liked that the air conditioning unit was located on the floor so that the cold air didn't blow directly on me. The view from our room was of the street and nearby buildings but as we were up high, I didn't feel at all closed in and enjoyed watching the street scene. Their credit card system wasn't working; had to pay cash. $50 a night during this "low season". We only stayed one night due to our travel schedule, but I would have liked to have stayed longer. Located near to the shops & restaurants at the Marina -- maybe a 10-minute walk. There's a great crossainterie in the marina shops that's open early for breakfast.

  • Liked — the patio with view
  • Disliked — it was a bit of a walk to a bustop
  • Tips/Secrets — You don't need French, but it helps if you make an effort to learn a few phrases.

The guest house provides you with a great view of the port and it is just a very short walk from the center of Marigot. The service was great and you certainly can't beat their price. Don't expect a fancy street side entry like the more pricey hotels on the island. This is place is a bargain hunters delight!
