This was our 5th year staying @ L'Esperance. You just can't beat the value. The rooms are very clean & the staff is incredible. They take pride in this little paradise as we have seen them updating rooms and painting. It is located in a quiet area which is a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Sint Maarten. We always rent a car on our vacation and drive everywhere so, for us, it's in a great location. The only downside to this lovely little hotel is there is no where to cook. Their pots and pans are very worn and we definitely don't want to cook inside on the hot plate provided, it would make the room unbearably hot. It would be nice if there was a grill or an outdoor bbq. We also love being able to leave our key behind so we don't have to worry about it. The pool is refreshing and quiet as well. The internet service was, for the most part, good on this trip compared to other years. We stayed for 17 days and there was no internet for maybe a day and a half. We can't wait to get back!

Room tip: We have stayed in Rooms 201, 202, 204,206, 207 (2 bedroom). All of these rooms are great except room 201 only has a bar style fridge or at least it did when we stayed there.

I have really not much to say, I loved every single bit of it, If u made your wifi-range a little bigger it would be excellent. The rooms self are spacious, its a bummer that there no near-by Restaurants, there is in either way a grocery store on a 5 minute walk distance, wich helped alot.Keep up the good job.

We arrived a few hours early to the hotel. After a brief wait, they graciously showed us to our room(201). Our room was a large efficiency with a bedroom. The bedroom had a door leading to an enclosed balcony that had a wonderful breeze.
We were pleased with the room and staff. The only downside to this hotel is its proximity to restaurants/shopping. There was a large grocery store about a 10 minute walk away. The walk is a little unsettling due to the lack of sidewalks.
The main desk was very accommodating when we asked them to call a taxi into Philipsburg. However, you had to turn in your key each time you left the premises. Also, when you were in the room, you could only lock the door from the inside with the key.
Overall, it was a good room for the price.

My wife and I stayed here on our first night on the island. We arrived from the airport close to 10 p.m. and were looking for an affordable place to stay close to Phillipsburg before heading to the French side of the island for the remainder of our stay. At $90 for a one-night pitstop it was more than adequate. The queen bedroom suite has a comfortable bed, kitchenette, nice TV and so-so Wifi connectivity (couldn't work in the bedroom). Also, the back porch was not ideal to use while the A/C unit was on. There is a grocery store down the block for supplies, which helped, as there is no breakfast service.

We stayed at L'Esperance Hotel for 5 nights Dec 22 to 26, 2014 before moving to a time share resort. A great place to stay. The staff were most friendly and cooperative. The 1 BR unit was clean and well equipped for our stay. As noted in other reviews, the hotel is not on a beach, rather located in a residential/business district. There is a very nice restaurant (Marks) and a shopping center within walking distance, but you need a car to get around and see all the beaches and sights of St. Maarten. We definitely recommend L'Esperance to visitors who do not want to be in downtown Phillipsburg or at a big resort. And the price is great!
