For our first visit to St. Lucia we were looking for a well located, up-to-date, self service villa by the beach. We narrowed our selection to Villa Beach Cottages based on information from traveller reviews and the web site for this pretty boutique hotel. Importantly, we can confirm the extensive traveller and professional photo galleries give a very complete 'picture' of the property for those trying to imagine the facilities down to room decor, pool size, layout of deck areas (sun and shade), and style of colonial architecture. Most certainly we enjoyed spending full days on the property because of the comfort, consideration for guest privacy, expansive ocean views and refreshing sound of the surf.

The one bedroom, upper level, self-service suite was very satisfactory and more than met our needs as a couple. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed luxurious, the linens pristine, and the bathroom very clean. Notably, the well furnished balcony overlooking the ocean became our primary living space for the week. Fantastic! Given outside breezes and inside ceiling fans, we kept the french doors to the balcony open (no bugs) and never had to use the air conditioning unit during our stay (even during short tropical rains). Thoughtful design of the units is evident in that dual electrical outlets allow for use of either European (DC) and North American (AC) appliances without converters. The bathroom however had no electrical outlet (although there was a wired in hair drier).

We found the close proximity of the villa suites to the beach terrific for so many reasons. Easy access to the water made it fun to go swimming, attempt body surfing, and even do some kayaking (good quality rental readily available) when the tropical spirits moved us. The beach is long enough for a short barefoot stroll to stretch one's legs and a good place to watch the sunset.

The location of Villa Beach Cottages seemed suitable given our plans for a few days out and about the island. Indeed the most pleasant surprise of our stay was the excellent concierge service provided by the friendly and capable staff. Colin Hunte, proprietor and manager, has a charming manner and within minutes of his warm welcome is engaged in listening to your plans and responding with suggestions and recommendations. During this initial meeting he produced a well annotated map for us. Throughout the week we booked day trips, made dinner reservations, and arranged for transportation with the concierge staff who were attentive and efficient. A highlight for us was a visit to the sister property, La Dauphine Estate, to tour the cocoa bean processing operation on this working plantation. While small in scale, for any chocolate lover it is a treat to suck on the sweetness of the bean fresh from a pod cluster and then sample the dark centre of a bean after it is fermented and sun dried.

In counterpoint to the awesome Pitons, it would be fair to say some main roads of St. Lucia are awfully bumpy and poorly maintained. So based on our experience, it is well worth using the (taxi) driver services offered by Villa Beach Cottages especially if you venture south to Soufriere for the mud baths, etc. We had an excellent driver, Claudius, who was good company and a thoughtful guide. Fortunately there are grocery stores within walking distance of the property, so you can take foot and experience life as a St. Lucian trying to deal with traffic at ground level while going about daily routines.

We definitely recommend Villa Beach Cottages as a top travellers' choice based on the property facilities, amenities, and concierge service.

We just returned from our second trip to St. Lucia and our second stay at Villa Beach. We cannot wait for our third! We chose to stay in the same unit, #18, which is an end unit overlooking the pool and hot tub, and of course the SEA! We still cannot believe how fantastic this location is for the price. You are literally steps from the water at all times. The crashing waves are your soundtrack for your entire stay, it's just incredible. There is so much to do in St. Lucia but we could spend all our time on the balcony just watching the horizon.

I'm happy to report that in the year since our stay nothing has changed in terms of the high level of service you will receive as a guest of Villa Beach. We were traveling with our toddler son and in advance of our arrival, the staff collected some grocery items we knew we'd need after a long travel day. We asked for some fruit and we received the most beautiful tray of tropical fruit--they just really went above and beyond.

We use the taxi service from the airport, which I think is a must. Our courteous driver, Ernest, was waiting for us, helped us with our bags, and put up with our cranky son! Later in the week Ernest also took us to the southern end of the island for a taxi tour of some things we wouldn't otherwise be able to see. We do rent a car from Villa Beach (they have car rentals on the property) but the drive to the south is like the Road to Hana, and it's best to leave the driving to a local.

Colin came by to say hello and to give us some updates about the property, the island, and some ideas for things to do now that our son is a little older. He has many guests who have visited many times, he really gets to know you. But, and this is huge for people like us who like to maintain privacy, Colin and his staff are extremely respectful of your vacation time and they don't pester you at all. In fact, unless you seek them out, they are very behind-the-scenes. We have never been so comfortable at a resort ever, and I hate to use the word resort because this is such a non-resort.

We also feel very safe at Villa Beach. There is round-the-clock security and they are visible all the time. We really appreciate that.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view! It's worth every penny.

This was our first visit to St Lucia in over six years. Having decided to avoid the usual 'all-inclusives' that seem to dominate the hotel scene on St Lucia we happened upon Villa Bech Cottages during the course of our internet research. Our stay over Christmas and New Year was nothing short of 'enchanting'. Our visit began with a warm welcome from Colin Hunte and reception team who took time to explain the hidden beauties that the island had to offer. The cottage that we stayed in was spacious, extremely comfortable aand with an amazing view of the Caribbean Sea, which was a mere matter of meters from our balcony. The staff at Villa Beach were friendly and efficient (thank you for your kind gift on my birthday!). A special mention to our taxi driver, Claudius, who was wonderfully informative during the course of our trips with him. Great neighbours too in next door villa! Highly recomended. Thank you, we hope to return soon!

Room Tip: All the villas are great; can't go wrong!

We visited St. Lucia and the Villa Beach Cottages this year for the first time. The trip did not disappoint and our expectations were exceeded!

We were welcomed at the airport by our driver, Claudius. As he drove us to the Villas, he pointed out sites and gave us tidbits about the island. On the drive, we passed by Claudius' sister, Fenicia (sp?), who was purchasing food for her local restaurant, and we made plans to eat there the following day (which was an incredible meal!). We would highly recommend a trip to her restaurant if you are looking for a delicious St. Lucian meal.

From the moment that we arrived at the Villas, we were treated wonderfully by all the staff. We stayed in Villa 5 and the room was superb! The room was super clean and very nicely decorated. I especially liked the art by Adelaide Rice, a longtime visitor to the Villas, and the namesake of the room. The view from the Villa was incredible - it included a view of the hammock, palm trees and the ocean.

Olivia, Nadia & Neva in reception are very helpful in booking reservations and providing recommendations on things to do and places to go. They truly enhanced our visit to the island.

We are planning a wedding at the Villas in March 2013 and I am so excited for our return trip. Olivia, Nadia and Neva have been so helpful with the booking arrangements for our family. In addition, Susan, the wedding planner, has been phenomenal. All of her recommendations for us have been spot on. She is working hard to make sure that our special day is exactly how we want it.

We are looking forward to planning many more trips to the Villas in the years to come!

We venture from the US to a different Caribbean island every winter. Each one is different and we never know what to expect. This year was a wonderful surprise. We booked the Villa Beach Cottages online and were delighted with the facility, the area and especially the staff! One of the guys who worked there climbed a coconut tree in front of our room to pick, prepare and serve fresh coconut milk to us on the pation one morning. Another brought us a fresh grapefruit from his personal garden just because my daughter said she liked grapefruit!

The island is a tropical rainforest full of beautiful plants and extinct volcanoes. The water is beautiful and scuba diving on the reef with Dive Fair Helen was one of the highlights of our trip.
