We chose this hotel because it was a ten minute walk from the ferry port and we had a very early ferry to Guadaloupe the next morning.

It looks like a backpackers hotel althought this is certainly not reflected in the €70+ that we paid for the room.

There was no lift and the receptionist offered to stow our cases in an unlocked cupboard. Needless to say we carried them up two flights of stairs.

The room itself was small and very dark (even with the two low wattage lights on). It wasn't helped by the fact that there was a kitchen table and large fridge in the room although quite why anyone would want to sit there (even with a takeaway pizza) is beyond me - there also wasn't any crockery, cutlery or glassware.

The bathroom was long and narrow and even at 5'3 I had to sit sideways on the toilet - I didn't ask how my 6'6 husband managed .... the shower was accessed by carefully walking over the toilet.

We went out for dinner and came back at 9.00 to a locked door. We had to ring and bang for 10 minutes until we woke up the Night Porter (if that is who he was). He was also there to check us out the next morning and when we asked for a receipt we discovered that he couldn't read or write!

On second thoughts a park bench is probably better ....

Room Tip: Don't go there at all

We loved our stay earlier this year, and when visiting martinique again this July, we wanted to return to Carib Hotel. Once again - no disappointment, Keep in mind it is a budget hotel in old town, not a modern Hilton - and all folds in place there. Rooms are extremely clean, location is fantastic if you travel by ferry or want to stay in old town. it is only 3 minutes walk from ferry, and next to famous Bibliotheque, and other attractions. Right over the corner you find great coffee (Cafe Milano), and places for great breakfast.
This time we upgraded to Superior room (for only 5 Euro more), and it was worth it. Much bigger room, bigger fridge, large balcony, king size, very comfortable bed.
But what also makes this hotel a fine choice is the friendly staff. Specially Mr Patrick, English speaking front manager always does his best to help, assist, point you in right way if you want to explore town, and so on.
For a budget hotel costing 65 to 70 Euros in center of Fort de France - it is simply perfect! We will be back!

Room Tip: it is an old building, every room is different. simply look at them when you arrive and have a choice.

I slept at this hotel for 1 night, on our way to Saint-Lucie. We found it useful because it was within walking distance from the ferry terminal. It is not situated in very touristic area of Fort-de-France, and I definitely would not recommend it for longer stays. The service was decent, the rooms were clean. There were a lot of mosquitoes, and no mosquito net was provided.

Cons: Some rooms are old and not so nice, but is Caribean, what do you expect...:)

Pros: Excellent choice. We had both types of rooms - better one was really much better and very nice for such price. very good location, you can walk to ferry, to cathedral, to market...And excellent staff - very helpfull, polite and english speaking (we met two middle aged man at the reception, both very helpfull). Stayed 2 days and was suprised, it was better, than you might expect from reviews.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are better.

To start with, we need to say it is a 2-star hotel, so no fancy options should be expected. It is located in an old traditional house adopted to be hotel, so each room is a bit different in size, shape, and feel. Consider it part of it's charm.

We hoped to find an inexpensive place close to the inter-island Express ferry, and this one was a great option. For $65 Euro we had a small room with double bed, tiny desk, TV, free WiFi, fridge, quiet air condition, and a functional small bathroom with good shower.
We also had a look at other rooms (our family stayed there too). All rooms are kept VERY clean with a very good room service every day (clean towels, bed, and so on).
Staff proved to be very helpful, assisting us (in English) with various needs.

There is not much else to be said, but it was all good, quiet, pleasant stay, so thumbs up! No breakfast available, but just around the corner you can pick from several good café places and a few more minutes of walking brings you to one of best boulangeries in town, so it is no problem.
About 3 minutes walk from the Express des Iles ferry, 3 minutes walk to the beautiful old library, 5 minutes from a shopping center with a large food store, hotel is located in one of old charming streets near Savanna, a nice open green area by the sea.
Another perk - if you want to rent a car Enterprise Rent a Car office is just 20 meters from the hotel. Really convenient. (and people at that office are really helpful too!)

We had a lovely stay and look forward to returning there in the future.
Thanks to all staff of Carib Hotel.

Room Tip: rooms are of a bit different sizes, some with a balcony, or a bigger fridge, etc. so ask ahead if it is important to you.
