“Beautiful Villa Made our Trip to Vieques Very Enjoyable”
Reviewed 9 April 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Our family of four (myself, husband, 2 children ages 12 and 14) very much enjoyed our stay at Sea Patch. Dave from Bravo Boyz met us at the airport, drove us to Avis and then back to the villa. He explained all of the many features of the villa and provided helpful insights into Vieques. This made for the perfect start to our trip.

The villa was very clean, spacious and had everything we could possibly need including paper products, floats and boogie boards and a very large washer/dryer. We loved the outdoor area with the pool and tropical trees and plants. We did not find the lack of window shades in the master bedroom and bath to be a problem. The plants surrounding the house sufficiently blocked the early morning sun so the sun did not awake us. Due to reflection, the only way to see into the bathroom is if someone were to press his or her face against the window (we tested this).

We collected a colorful assortment of shells, rocks and sea glass at the Chata beach, just a few steps from the house. Vieques has so many beautiful beaches and delicious restaurants to enjoy. Don't miss breakfast at the Viequense bakery in town where there is a nice mix of locals and tourists, lunch from the Sol Food Truck, coco locos at Arena Mar, happy hours at Bananas and dinner at Coqui Fire.

We highly recommend Sea Patch!

We stayed at this gorgeous home with out 6 and 8 year old boys. Everyone had their own en suite room with wonderful sheets and towels provided. The pool is spectacular and we used the boogie boards, snorkeling equipment and sand toys all provided. The boys loved the 20 step walk to la chata beach where they jumped in the waves. We also hit up sun bay, Chivas and Luna - you can't go wrong. We did the bio tour and boat charter through Blackbeard sports.

The house was very clean, organized and well stocked. We cooked in and ate out. There is a great little covered table area next to the pool and grill, which we used.

The a/c and fans worked well. The landscaping is gorgeous and Alberto from bravos boyz got us here and showed us around.

Definitely need to rent a jeep to get around.

Overall, amazing!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Patch. There was so much that was terrific about our stay that I hate to give it a "very good" review rather than an "excellent" review, but it appears that the owners (not the Bravos Boyz) are dug in deep on a specific point, so I'm making my voice heard via this review on that one point. It is a bit ridiculous that no blinds are installed in the master bath or bedroom. I understand that some feel that blinds take away from that "beachy feel" but a lot of us go on vacation to sleep a little longer than usual, which is impossible with the amount of morning sun in the master. Additionally, it is a bit inexcusable for there not to be any level of privacy in the master bath because there are no blinds on the windows. In fact, on one day I was showering in the master and one of the excellent Bravos Boyz staff was on the grounds to perform maintenance and there I was to behold. I can say it was bit awkward when we made eye contact. Now, I'm a dude and he was a dude, so no issues there, but if it was my wife I would have been really pissed (and not at the Bravos Boyz). The owners of this property need to realize that this is not an aesthetic debate, it's a necessity. Before we traveled, we read about the lack of blinds in the master on other reviews, so we shipped black plastic sheeting to the island to cover the master bedroom windows, which did the trick in the bedroom. We did not realize that the bathroom was a problem as well. In the end, we feel like we should not have had to do this when the fix is so simple by installing blinds. Please, please install blinds. We want to come back and don't want to have the whole room draped in black plastic. Ok, rant over and on to the many other ridiculously, awesome attributes of this house.

The house and grounds are fabulous. We loved the pool and cabana and found that the towels, linens, bed, wifi, and phones were all excellent and appreciated. The decor is great and the landscaping is top notch. You really feel like you have your own little piece of paradise in a private, upscale setting.

If you are looking to cook while there, I did plenty of it. The supplies provided are good. A couple of things that would be excellent to add are a few sheet pans and at least one non-stick skillet for eggs and pancakes (but I feel like I'm splitting hairs pointing that out). As others have noted, if you are a serious cook, pack a few zip locks of your favorite spices. It makes things so much easier when it comes to cooking on the island. Also, I would encourage anyone who is an eater (or "foodie" though I hate that term) to use Buen Provecho for provisioning or simply walk into the store and buy provisions there. Chris does a great job of getting hard to get things like top quality cheezes, meats, and produce to the island. We used him for provisioning and were very pleased with what he provided and it was all stocked in the house upon our arrival.

When it comes to security (which is important to us), the house felt like a fortress with concrete walls, extremely secure doors, cameras, and a modern security system. Because of these, we slept without any anxiety whatsoever and felt confident when we left valuables in the house while away at the beaches.

For those who have not stayed here before, this is not a "beach view" or "beach front" rental. The beach is in fact a stones throw away and I believe is viewable from at least one of the balconies. And the beach is beautiful. But it is not a swimmable beach. This did not bother us a bit. We enjoyed walks on the beach that was literally next door. But you'll need to go to the south to enjoy the very best beaches for swimming and fun. Of course, if you come to Vieques and fail to rent a jeep to visit these beaches, you're crazy and have not done your research. I also have to say that we loved staying on the North side with the real "town" so close and vendors like Buen Provecho and the grocery stores so close to get provisions from.

I noticed that one reviewer had a comment about the dogs sometimes coming on the grounds. There are dogs all over the island (along with horses). But there are three dogs (in particular one black lab) who frequently visit Sea Patch. They are the sweetest and most harmless dogs ever and we thoroughly enjoyed their evening visits. I believe that the black lab is named "Oscar" and is actually the Bravos Boyz's dog. We fed Oscar every night and were nearly heartbroken when Oscar was late showing up on our final night. If having a few really sweet dogs around you for 30 minutes a day wierds you out, there will probably be many other reasons that Vieques is not the place for you.

Finally, I wanted to say thank you to our gracious hosts, the Bravos Boyz, who are simply awesome. Everyone we met associated with the Bravos Boyz, from our greeter, maintenance folks, housekeepers, office managers, and the owner, were terrific people and excellent at their jobs. We will always book with Bravos Boyz when we come to Vieques and will book Sea Patch again even if the owners choose not to add blinds to the master. :)

“Beautiful House”
Reviewed 15 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We just returned after a week in Vieques. Sea patch is a very nice upscale home with exceptional decor and great amenities. The house was impeccable and the pool was clean. The nearby beach is very rocky but makes for a nice walk. We walked into town for our morning walk every day. We rented a mini van from the only rental in town. Here are some tips for future visitors to this house.

Take little ziplock bags with herbs and spices if you want to do any cooking. They have utensils and pots and pans but it's kinda limited. Buy ice from the store and keep that in your freezer. The ice maker is slow. There's a water puddle at the top of the stairs when it rains. Be careful. The windows do not have shades in the master. If you need dark to be able to sleep, Pick one of the upstairs bedrooms and hang a towel or sheet on the door. You can hear the dogs barking and the roosters early in the morning in the upstairs bedrooms but not in the master. The master bath has big windows and no shades or curtains. It rains on the island even in February but the sun always follows. Take sunscreen and bug spray.

Beer rum and scotch are cheap on the island but eating out can be expensive. We cooked fresh fish on the grill. The fish market has fresh catch. It's right next to the ferry pier. The beaches on the south side of the island are amazing. We spent an entire day at sun beach. That's the only one with bathrooms, showers and a restaurant. I wouldn't go to green beach. The road is full of huge potholes. Bio bay was amazing. Spray yourself well before you go. There are only two gas stations on the island and they're both on the north side in Isabel, right next to each other, and owned by the same guy! Sometimes there's no gas on the island for a couple of days. When you're on island time, no problem man! But if you're from the big city on the mainland it can be quite bothersome and irritating to pay 125 bucks a day for your car rental and not be able to drive it because you are low on gas. A good policy is to fill up every time you drive past the gas station. Keep your tank full. There's lots of cops on the island and I think they are quite liberal with handing out parking tickets of $50 to $75. Be careful of how and where you park. You have to drive over to the "collectoria" to pay your ticket. It's near the gas stations.

Back to sea patch, it's one of the best houses that we have ever rented. We completed the 1000 piece coca cola puzzle. Would have been nice to have dominoes or checkers. It's nice that they have wifi but they do need a newer router as the current one doesn't make it to the cabana or the master bedroom.

There's a shower by the pool but the wash water flows back into the pool and makes a big puddle so be careful not to slip as you walk out the kitchen door to the pool.

There's a really good weber charcoal grill. Charcoal is available at the bigger grocery stores. The pool house has beach chairs and boogie boards. They also have some snorkel equipment and a small surf board.

I want to thank the Bravos Boys for providing such a nice house. We really enjoyed staying here and will definitely return. The gal who picked us up at the airport and took us to the house was extremely helpful and nice.

“Disappointed with the details”
Reviewed 4 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015
people found this review helpful

The property is mostly as it appears in the photos. There are things that renters should be aware of:

The master bedroom on the main floor has no privacy and the very nice walk in shower is viewable from outside the house.

"The other two bedrooms each have their own balcony with ocean views" is an overstatement at best - perhaps partial view of a wee bit of the ocean through an alley would be more accurate.

The pans are very limited if you plan to cook in. No sheet trays or casseroles, cake pans, etc.

The roof leaks when it rains, which it did a lot of while were there. The very pretty tile is very slippery when wet. Since the leak was at the top of the stairs, it made heading down for a morning cup of coffee more of an adventure than expected. We notified them at departure and the response was that they were aware of it, but it happens when it rains. I would be cautious with children or older people, it is hard to spot the puddles before you step in them.

The ice maker is insufficient if you are a party of 4 and use ice at all. We called about it thinking a setting could be changed but got no call back.

The pool is very nice and we enjoyed it.

While there is plenty of security on the house and a gate to lock, the property is surrounded by a short fence comprised of a couple strands of barbed wire. Frequently we found several dogs out in the yard and around the pool, using the very pretty water gardens to drink from. If you have concerns about sharing with dogs, it may be problematic - but since dogs run loose everywhere that would be a concern in most places.

"The house sits a few steps from lovely La Chata Beach that is a Bravos Boyz favorite for a morning swim, beach combing for sea glass or to watch the surfers catch a wave." - the individual who gave us a tour of the property upon arrival took great pains to mention multiple times that the beach is a "walking beach", not for swimming. I agree with her, it is not for the faint of heart or even the mildly crazy to swim in. It is very rocky with heavy wave action much of the time we were there. It is, however, a great walking beach and we spent considerable time looking for sea glass there. We were VERY disappointed not to be able to go for a morning swim without a drive to a better location.

The house is "built for air conditioning" translates into that being the only option. The windows do not open so you cannot enjoy the sound of the ocean indoors, even when the weather is mild.

Liked best: The coffee pot and blender were very nice. The bedding was good.
