We stayed at the Rainforest Inn for 3 nights after spending 3 days in the San Juan area. It was thoroughly enjoyable; peaceful, relaxed, beautifully maintained, and with gracious and thoughtful hosts and staff. Renee's breakfasts are amazing and the presentation is nothing short of Pinterest-worthy. This inn has remained open despite being without electricity or drinkable water for 6 months; this is nothing short of miraculous and the owners are to be credited for maintaining amazing hospitality through harrowing times.

The other guests at the Inn were all very interesting and well-traveled, as was the intern (Canada) and the electrical adviser (Philadelphia). The hosts recommended an excellent bio-luminescent bay tour that was a highlight of our stay. The rooms were large, well-equipped, and spotless. There were toiletries and housekeeping supplies thoughtfully provided (clothespins and a clothes line were especially welcomed). The views are breathtaking. I was surprised at how many creatures peep, crow, burble and sing at night, which makes for excellent sleeping conditions. Our daughter loved the resident cat, and the two dogs were always available for pats.

I highly recommend bringing a vehicle here; it is not easily Ubered. There is a complete kitchen in each apartment so lunch and dinner can be prepared by guests for themselves. The nearest restaurants are a bit of a drive, especially at night when the dark roads twist and turn. There is a wonderful path to a waterfall and swimming hole through the forest that is an adventure. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a walking stick.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely and unique. One has a hanging bed!!!

We had a two bedroom suite. Everything was comfortable, very clean, and a great shower and bathroom. The included breakfast was wonderful! Our suite had two hammocks outside and the gardens were a lovely mix of many diverse plants. We did a rugged 20 minute walk through the forest (recovering from Hurricane Maria) ending at a rocky creek with a waterfall. There are some excellent restaurants nearby. The innkeepers are great people!

My husband and I booked our trip to Puerto Rico last July (pre-Maria). We were not sure what to expect, but decided to be adventurous. The Rainforest Inn was our second destination. What a neat place to relax. We stayed in the Jungle Suite. The hanging bed was so soothing to sleep in. I will forever miss that shower. The suite had a great patio with a couple hammocks and a seating area. We bought dinner locally every night and ate it on that patio listening to the sounds of the rainforest. One day it rained in the morning and we just laid in the hammocks enjoying nature. The next day it was nice enough to hike the Lost Machete trail. This is a private trail that lead to a waterfall and swimming hole. The hike was very muddy and challenging. Loved it! The swimming hole was all ours. So beautiful. Really a once in a lifetime kind of experience. Bill and Renee were such gracious hosts. Every morning Renee serves a delicious breakfast that is not to be missed. They gave great recommendations on places to eat and sites to see. There were not many tourists back yet, but Puerto Rico is ready for them. I highly recommend a stay in the Rainforest Inn. You will not be disappointed!

The Rainforest Inn is a gem. Rene and Bill are warm, friendly and helpful hosts. We rented the chalet. It was very clean and was equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. It felt like a bit of luxury up in the mountains. The property was lush and beautiful and there is an amazing, albeit muddy, hike to a waterfall and swimming hole that should not be missed. Bring shoes that can withstand a good amount of mud! Also bring your morning appetite because the breakfast is unbelievable. (Bill also shared some nice scotch one evening...) There are two very sweet and friendly dogs, Gracie and Simone. Of course, what really finishes the day is the soothing music of the rainforest night. You'll want to sleep with the windows wide open to hear the rainforest symphony!

My husband and I live in San Juan and wanted to spend the weekend relaxing, enjoying El Yunque and the east of Puerto Rico. The Rainforest Inn was perfect, excellent attention to detail, very clean/luxurious rooms, and extremely relaxing. The temperatures at the Rainforest Inn are much lower than the rest of Puerto Rico, absolutely no need for air conditioning. The hiking trail, which takes about 45 min each way, led to a beautiful & refreshing waterfall.

Even though El Yunque is official closed, there are plenty of hiking trails within the rainforest to explore and enjoy the rainforest.

Breakfast and fresh cappuccino were excellent.

It was wonderful being your hosts. We hope to see you again and that more nature-lovers will come and visit now that we have cleared our private hike, the "Lost Machete" trail, and have added a private area for pitching hammocks.
