Coffee and pastries were excellent--took us awhile to find parking -- there are no signs outside of building

It's very popular in the island, so it's a stop you can't miss if you are in Mayaguez or near by. They have the brazo gitano, the guayaba is the most famous, but they also have it with different fillings. I found the little shop cute & unique. They also have some other puertorrican candies, honey, coffee, sangrias for sale. It's a good place to buy some souveniers if you are visiting. They also have a panaderia/ cafeteria at the back of the store were you can sit and have breakfast and/or lunch. I liked it.

Franco's is well known for its jelly roll but what I love about them is that you can get premium quality coffee grounds or beans that you can't get elsewhere and a a very good price. Don't buy coffee at the supermarket and make the trip to Franco's. I make coffee in my office and my colleagues and students notice the difference in the quality. Franco also serves a generous breakfast and has a modest selection of real Italian biscuits that I haven't seen anywhere else. They also have a wide selection of wines from various countries, including Puerto Rico. Don't be put off by appearances and make a visit.

We are native residents of Mayaguez. My Grandmother knew the owners when they moved to Puerto Rico from Madrid, Spain. I grew up with all their delicate pastries. People from all over the island come down to the West Coast to purchase the famous brazo Gitano. You can get the brazo Gitano in more than 15 flavors. If you order in advanced you can mix two flavors in one brazo Gitano. Franco is a landmark in downtown Mayaguez.
