Well not really on the beach, so if you’re looking for one of those family beach hotels with lots of Clubs and activities for the children then the Vanderbilt isn’t for u. If you’re looking for understated luxury on the beautiful coast line of San Juan, impeccable service and wonderfully refined rooms and public spaces, then you’ll enjoy the Vanderbilt like we did. Very few signs of the hurricane that swept through here remain, and the hotel has undergone a multi million dollar renovation and it shows. The public spaces are beautiful, the rooms luxurious and comfortable, the SPA and gym state of the art, and the bar and restaurant lively in the evening. Half way between the airport and Old San Juan, the Vanderbilt is convenient to most restaurants and tourist attractions. It it is the service that triply stands out and that makes the Vanderbilt more than just another luxury hotel. So enjoy the surf, the sun and the luxury this hotel has to offer on a romantic weekend or family vacation. We did and it was a nice break from the snow and cold of New York.

Upon arrival was upgraded to a water view suite which views city and beach. Excellent view and great room. Everything you could possibly want is at this hotel. The service was fantastic food was very good but a little pricey. Ate at every restaurant there and was very pleased. Hotel is walking distance to many other stores and places in city. Great hotel.

There is a basic saying in politics: "It's the economy, stupid!!".
In high end hotels the equivalent saying is "It's the service stupid!".
It's in the level of service expected from such high end hotels that this facility does NOT make the cut.
Saw first hand the front desk boss in action - and he's good at what he does. It's not his fault - he works hard to train the front desk staff - but "one cannot make chicken soup out of chicken manure". He is obviously NOT the one hiring the front desk staff. The young men who work the front desk must be recruited because they are somebody's nephew or cousin and who might have had the fortune to live in Florida for a couple of years (so they speak decent English). Let me be clear: It's the young men who fail the courtesy test - not the young women. For instance, twice I asked for wake up calls - and twice the same young man failed to make it happen. And when you see somebody hurt - don't pass it on to somebody else - see what you can do to help. The instinct to help is simply not there. And don't eat or drink when you are talking to a hotel guest!

Excellent location with gorgeous ocean views in this water front 5 star hotel. Very friendly staff, beautiful decor, excellent food and a superb spa will guarantee a very satisfactory stay or visit. The Vanderbilts knew what they were doing when they picked this location back in the heyday of the roaring 20’s. Spa is a must, so is restaurant 1919 and the main lobby bar.

Our family of four enjoyed the hotel. The staff was kind and efficient. The hotel had wonderful amenities (close to the beach, kid-friendly pool area, wonderful restaurants on-site and within walking distance to many more restaurants). We hope to visit again.
