Found this while walking near the old fort. Fish bites were so good we ordered a second portion and came back the next day and had them again. Very friendly staff who recognised us. Can sit in the shade with a cool breeze

After exploring the ancient Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery between the Atlantic Ocean & the walls of Fort San Felipe Morro, we headed up the (very steep) hill to the top of Calle del Cristo. After reaching the top of the hill (did I tell you it was very steep) we stood in front of long, dark, stone wall with many large window-like cutouts. Inside the wall was a long narrow restaurant and beyond it was a very large courtyard (part of the Plaza de Soporta). While I was checking our location on Pocket Earth, my wife ‘Yelped’ (sorry TR) and this seemingly appearing snack at” was really a full-blown restaurant with better than 4.5 stars. We went in, were quickly seated at a spartan but clean table. The variety of the menu offerings was unbelievable. We ordered 5 appetizers: chilled & chopped octopus; fresh anchovies in an oil sauce; cooked green lipped mussels with a wonderful sauce; a beef empanadilla (spelling ?); & a lobster empanadilla. Nothing we ordered is commonly found on menus of even the most upscale seafood restaurant. Each item was deliciously prepared & beautifully presented. We were amazed, this food was a gastronomic delight, original, and scrumptious—and all at the top of old San Juan and only a quarter mile from the entrance to one of the city’s most important tour sites. It is by far the best food we’ve eaten in San Juan, in fact, Ostra Cosa is one of my top 10 best restaurants ever. There is no ambience to speak of (though the cool breeze is refreshing); the serving staff are competent, attentive & polite, but obviously not experienced “wait-staff”; the music is much too loud—but somebody in the kitchen knows what she or he is doing, as the food is simply outstanding and its presentation is wonderful. That chef has a brilliant future in front of her or him. My hats off to the chef for the creative menu & the brilliant food preparation!

Excellent food. Very fresh. Fast service. Sea food is incredible. Ask for the lobster with shrimps, mussels, scallops and calamari. The lemon juice is home made with Puerto Rican’s native limes. The prices are very nice if you compared with other similar restaurants.

We didn't have the lobster they are known for, but the rest of the menu had a lot of variety and everything was tasty. net service was good and generous. Service was very good. Weird bathroom setup ( you need a ticket for a shared thing), but it eat crowded so it wasn't a big deal.

Enjoy appetizers or a dinner in a touristic ambiance in the middle of Old San Juan. Nice place to take some photos, and relax after a long walk. Also sometimes there is music to enjoy, too.
