“Had an awesome time!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2012

Just came back from a week at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay, it was awesome! The staff is very friendly and very accomodating. The food was very good, the buffet alway had a good variety of foods and I'm a very picky eater and still found lots of food to enjoy;) The jerk chicken is fantastic!! And champagne flows freely what more can you ask for:) If your looking for night life this may not be the place for you, the entertainment staff do their best to put on a good show, but after that there is not much to do. You can catch a cab to the Rui Negril which is five minutes away and enjoy the disco there. The beach more than makes up for the lack of nightlight, it's the most beautiful beach I've been to and I've been to many!

The majoy complaint I have about this hotel is that they spay for the bugs around 6:00 in the evening when people are still at the beach and around the pool. The fumes are terrible, guests were running to avoid inhaling the fumes!! And the other thing we did not enjoy was the smoking, you can smoke pretty much anywhere in the hotel...

We tried two of the a la carte restaurants and they were both awesome!! I've heard complaints regarding lining up for the reservations but it really didn't take that long, we lined up at 9:00 am and we were done by 9:20. The steak place is really good!! Rick's cafe is a must!!

All in all a great trip and would recommend it to all my friends...

Room Tip: I suggest you stay in Building 4 as it's close to everything, just avoid being close to the main...

Hi We were here Feb 11 to Feb 18. overall this trip was great . Food was very good. Service hit and miss. Jerk Hut for lunch a must. Night time DJ not very good. Watch out for the sandfleas as a number of people where biten , not fun . They are out early morning and early evening and after it rains stay off the beach at these time. If you use bug spray or lemon juice (must bring with you they do not have any in Jamaica). Use one of these and you will be fine. Beds are very hard. Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a ture king size bed.

.......it wasn't the luxury we expected for well over £3000!! I was expecting it to be along the lines of the 5 Star Le Touessrok in Mauritius, which was PURE luxury, uninterrupted heavenly beaches and 6 Star service.

I don't want to sound unfair as the Riu Palace was very pleasant, lovely grounds & pools but the beach was like a flea bitten pit with endless hassle from pedlars, dirty cups, cigarette ends and rubbish. Just not what I expected. The staff are all so hard working and polite though, they really try hard for you, you do feel obliged to give tips all the time which mounts up if your on a bit of a budget.

I feel very mixed feelings about this place.. we attended a beautiful wedding here which was a nice bonus as we only made friends with the couple a few days before. Cannot fault their wedding it was lovely.

Maybe if I hadnt been to that amazing place in Mauritius I wouldnt have felt disappointed, I guess I just felt that 5 Star would be 5 Star through and through and it really is not.
Food & drink were plentyful, Im not going to complain about the food. Some days better than other days but pleasant enough. Jerk chicken is fantastic in the afternoon.. perfect.
I would not go back to Jamaica, on the whole I was disappointed... maybe a diferent area would have been nicer, who knows, but once is enough for me. I also would not choose Riu again for a holiday like this. I think it cost us around £3400 and thats a lot of money to us. I hoped for luxury but got average.

If you have plenty of money and this is just a general holiday for you then great, go for it. BUT if this has taken you a long time to save for and maybe a once every decade type holiday for you then definately dont go here... choose Mauritius 5 Star or maybe any other recommendations for Jamaican hotels but not this one. This is like an up-market Spanish holiday!

from the moment we arrived to when we left its was great. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. make sure you get an oceanfront room if you can. when we ordered room service and wanted to get abottle of wine and cheese they said that was not part of room service but that they would bring it anyway. 15 mins later wine and cheese arrived.
we will be back this winter. rooms were very big and clean.

Room Tip: get the oceanfront room ask for room 1111 its big and quiet part of resort

Accomodation was excellent, as you would come to expect from Riu. Beautiful location - right on the beach. Food and service were of a very high standard. The Asian resturant was the only let down as food not authentic. The Crab Soup was fish flavoured soup with fish sticks sliced up. Most other couples who had been there said they would probably not go to the resturant again. The Steakhouse was terrific. The evening entertainment was as good as you will find. Fantastic two weeks! Recommended. At lunch be sure not to miss the Jerk Chicken cooked on the BBQ!
