My wife and I traveled to Jamaica for the first time this week. We stayed at Deja Resort for six nights. We had a lovely time. We did not want to leave. We will go back.
Deja Resort is...
Inconspicuous
Unpretentious
Genuine
Staffed by the sweetest people you will ever meet
Spotless
Located minutes from the airport and central to the tourist area of
All inclusive
Undergoing needed renovation
Deja Resort is not...
A super-posh, five star resort
Beachfront
A place for foodies
We felt safe the entire time we were in Jamaica, except for our very short walk down the street from the resort. We were accosted by merchants constantly. No way to tell who is legit and who is not. If you stick to the resort and use their drivers and valet/bell staff, all will be well.
Deja is directly across the street from the beach. As a guest at the resort, you get free passes to the beach. The pass dies not include chairs, umbrellas, or food and drink. It is also directly across the street from Starbucks.
The pool at the resort is small. There is a poolside bar. During lunch, there is a barbecue where you can get a homestyle burger cooked to order. We thought our lunches at the pool were our best meals at the resort. We thought our lunches at the pool were our best meals at the resort. The food was good, though the buffet changed very little from day to day, and became tedious.
The bartenders are excellent. Activites are planned daily by a young lady named Chocolate. She has boundless, contagious energy, and manages to get even the middle aged, non-hip, non-funky group involved.
Every time we walked through the resort, someone was actively cleaning something. A young man named Gerald kept the area area around our suite immaculate. I challenge anyone to find so much as a cobweb anywhere.
The day spa was undergoing renovation, and the staff had been relocated to the boardroom. This made the whole spa experience a bit awkward, but in Jamaica there are no problems...just tiny little situations. The spa staff rolls with the punches and made things work. My wife had a top notch massage from Donna.
If you are looking for a super-luxurious resort where staff will wait on you hand and foot, Deja is probably not the right choice for you. If you want a genuine Jamaica experience, look no further.
Chocolate, Krystal, Mavrie, Kenny, Andrew, Richard, Chris, and all the rest....we cannot wait to see you again!
Love,
Your newest Jamericans
PS...Not resort related, but helpful hint for first time visitors: It is not necessary to exchange US dollars for Jamaican dollars. We got better deals with US cash. Next time we will not bother with changing money.More
