Two large families stayed at this home for during our Spring Break from school and we LOVED IT! The views are spectacular. The home and the entire property is wonderful. The pool easily accommodated our large group. The food was delicious - as was the rum punch. EVERYTHING about the property was perfect. However, as good as the home is, we cannot say enough great things about the staff that takes care of you during your stay. Carl, Sherianne, Kimoya, JJ and T Man are truly delightful people that are always there to attend to every wish or need. We felt like family while there. DO NOT MISS THIS SLICE OF HEAVEN if you have a chance to stay there!
If you are looking for a historic house in the Jamaican hills, Hammerstein Highland house is your place. This tastefully styled, cozy yet grand beautiful villa was the answer to my mid-winter blues. With a staff lead by the gracious Carl, our stay was perfection. The food was sublime with dishes that were local and fresh. My only regret is eating every ounce of my dessert every night. Besides the food, the grounds are beautiful and the perfect setting for getting a bit of exersize. There is a yoga studio below, a library full of books and fun DVD's, a few places to venture out to making this a most pleasant holiday destination for some serious R and R.
If you like old fashioned tropical glamour with a view almost as good as that of the opening sequence of the Sound of Music then Hammerstein Highland House is for you. Built in the 1950s by the Oscar Hammerstein, the lyric and book writing partner of Richard Rodgers, and maintained by current American owners, it has the timeless classy vibe of a place trying just hard enough. The décor is largely white with splashes of bold pastels that bring Jonathan Adler and Kelly Wearstler to mind - without the pretense. The staff is sublime, quiet and efficient and the fresh locally sourced meals by the chef - with ingredients from the property's organic garden are full of traditional Jamaican zest. The pool is fresh as a lake, each room generous and unique. The villa is a ten minute drive up a hill from the bustle of overwrought Montego Bay with its built up beaches and traffic. What a difference a mountain road makes. Yet it's all happily less than a half hour from the airport and the intensely posh Round Hill -- for dinner among the excessive and elite. Unique, divine!
We all fell in love with house, the grounds and views. The staff were very helpful and attentive to our needs.
I organised our stay as a surprise treat for my wife to celebrate a special birthday, needless to say I am now in her good books ........... FOREVER!!
Thank you Keressa and all the staff at the House and a special thanks to Calbert Brooks and his band who rounded off a very special day
