“25th Wedding Anniversary Holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

We had a wonderful week at the Sandals Royal Caribbean resort, relaxing in the sunshine and enjoying the company of the fabulous staff!! Our main reason for being there was to renew our wedding vows to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and this was very carefully planned and arranged with the dedicated planners at the resort! Balmoral beach at 9am was the perfect spot, with cloudless blue skies and the lovely Ambrose Hind! Couldn't have been any more perfect!
We also spent a day out with Real Tours Jamaica and Norris Douglas - a wonderful man willing to show his country off with fun and laughter... we would certainly recommend you look him up if you are planning a trip to this part of Jamaica!
Overall a great holiday - we are not really "resort" people - but had a great week all the same!

Room Tip: We were in the Balmoral building - which is close enough, but far enough away from the bars, restaur...

Been coming to this resort for years, love the smallness of it as well as the ability to visit other Sandals resorts to eat dinner or spend the day. Staff is awesome, food and drink are great. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: One tip- Bring your own thermo mug or cup- Drinks stay colder this way.

We travel quite frequently and alot to Jamaica. This was a last minute trip and was booked about 2 weeks beforehand. We prefer an adult only resort, we like the Couples resorts, San Souci being our favorite in Jamaica. Unfortunately they were totally booked so we thought we'd try the Sandals in Montego Bay as we did'nt feel like taking a long road trip to the other sides of the island. When we arrived we were told we were upgraded from a deluxe to a premium room. We werent expecting alot as we did read the reviews but I really could'nt believe how bad this room was.
First of all, when he opened the door it did'nt open all the way as the refrigerator sticks out from under the cabinet and the cabinet doors are always open. The room was very small and dark. The bed took up most of the room. The mattress was alot smaller than the frame so you could see the 4 boards that held the bed together. The rugs were filthy. The drawers were tiny. The closet was small and dark. We did have a nice patio. We were on the second floor and had a view of the small pool at the next building and the lobby. The sink countertop was cracked and alot of little ants were crawling around. They blended in with the counter so you did'nt notice them right away. Our toilet did'nt work. We called down shortly after we arrived.
They never did come up to fix it. You had to take the tank top off to flush it and it would take forever to fill back up. Then you'd have to play with the handle to get it to stop running . There was mold on the tiles in the shower and the shower head did'nt work properly. When we went to make dinner reservations we were told there was nothing until Saturday. We arrived on Sunday and were staying 6 nights leaving on Saturday. I told him we were leaving that day. He said he would waitlist us and we would probably be hearing from them soon. When he went thru the pages to waitlist us I did see a space for the French restaurant. He said, yes it did look like someone cancelled. He reserved it for the Friday, the night before we were leaving. I checked down everyday to see if anything opened up anywhere but never anything. I also needed to use my computer. Wi-fi was $15.00 a day! I used it for 1 day. The grounds were kept up. The staff was all very friendly. The food was OK, they had the same menu at the 2 restaurants that we got to choose from. Service was VERY slow. One night we were in there for 2 hours. We were looking forward to dining at the French restaurant our last night. Because there was a chance of rain they moved everyone to the tea room. This was in the main area where everyone walked thru to get anywhere. It was very noisy and you were right out in the open. We were looking forward to a nice quiet romantic dinner for our last night. We enjoyed the island, but again we had trouble getting a chair. The butlers reserved most of them beforehand so if you don't get there really early you're out of luck. All in all if you're looking to get out of the cold during the winter months and just need somewhere to stay in Jamaica, its OK, but if you're expecting anything more, this is not the place. From what I saw, unless you pay for a higher category room or Butler service category you won't get much. Go elsewhere.

My husband and I traveled her for our honeymoon in September 2011, and really enjoyed our stay. We had already paid for an upgraded room, and much to our suprise, we were upgraded even further. I can only assume this is because I am in the travel industry. We really felt special and taken care of. Upon arrival, they whisked us away to a separate concierge check-in office that had air conditioning. We were introduced to our butlers, Ellis and Hughill, who took care of our wants and needs. I would highly recommend upgrading to a "butler" category if it's in your budget. It was hot, hot, hot, so be prepared. Also, make sure you bring bug spray for the no see-ums. I bought a bunch of "bug bracelets" and OFF! Clip-ons before we left because I didn't want to smell like bug spray all day, but it didn't do much good. I had to buy a $13 can of spray at the gift shop. This was our very first all-inclusive and now we will know what to expect in the future. I am a food snob and while I admit it wasn't quite top of the line, I certainly didn't go hungry. There are many choices of restaurants and types of food. Make sure you make your dinner reservations as soon as you book your trip. We found that the finer dining restaurants were booked up already. However, our wonderful butlers were able to squeeze us in. I really wanted to see the steel drum bands play, but that was only one night out of our 5 night stay. It was on our first night, of course, and we were exhausted due to the travel time from Omaha, NE to MoBay. That coupled with the fact we had just gotten married 36 hours before! We thought this resort was beautiful and really enjoyed the private pool. Our butlers made sure to save our spots and have our refreshments ready each morning with fresh towels. We didn't participate in any of the activities as we just wanted to enjoy eachothers company and relax. We could've made more use of the resort and it's amenities, but it was really nice to lounge by the pool and ocean. Since Sandals offers so many different resorts, we will try a different location next, but couldn't have been more pleased with SRC.

With a very cheery welcome at the airport and a luxury limo transfer the holiday was off to a fantastic start. Our friends from the states had already arrived so check in was a mixture of catch up and paper work, which doesn’t really work. We were up graded to a beach front room on the first floor of the Sandringham block, which is a fantastic location, although the rooms are some of the older ones on property and the bathrooms are looking tired. They have a covered balcony which, if you have nothing better to do is the perfect oasis with a couple of glasses of chilled wine and either read your book or watch the world go by, no chance there then.

The property is more compact than the Halcyon, which we have visited before and the gardens are not so extensive but the grounds men keep them beautifully. You have to hire the kabanas here and this is done through the concierge desk for either a day or half day, this does bring the bonus of someone to fetch snacks and drinks. While we were here they were building a fire pit, which will be a nice addition. This could have been done very swiftly by machine with noise however they chose to do it by hand, which was quiet and quite entertaining as well as the rumour of what was happening. A pizza oven by the grill and patisserie by reception are planned.

For those by the quieter pool the grill bar staff do come round regularly and ask if refreshment is wanted. They swing by the beach and ask as well even though the bar is about 30 feet away. Many thanks to Nicloa, Sasha and Courtney for your care and attention.

There doesn’t seem to be the wide spread of choice on the buffet as there is on the other properties and we did manage to visit Mobay and Negril just to see if we might fancy there another time. However the standard of the food is high, and Michael on the breakfast counter does some mean eggs. There is quite a distance between the buffet and the seating, although sitting on the deck by the sea watching the world go by was wonderful. In the restaurant, the staff were great, particular characters for us were Rochell and Garfield, infectious laugh and a great balancer.

You are on the flight path out of the airport and although the planes seemed quite loud the first day we swiftly zoned out, although this may have had something to do with spending half of the day underwater.

The dive team are great a mix of all sorts of characters, and the dive sites are fairly close by so short boat trips. They only do two tank dives on Mon, Wed, Fri the other days are single dives where the boat comes back in although if you want the second dive you stay on board. The night dive was $80 and was where I have taken what I consider to be my best photo ever. I also completed my deep dive speciality and much to my immense pride my wife passed her open water qualification. A huge thankyou to all, stand by next year.

You are all told when you arrive that if you have any problems to speak to the staff there and then so that it can be sorted, we did and it was. Don’t wait till you get home and winge, cos things just can’t be sorted then. The staff want you to have a good holiday as well.

We are looking forward to next year and have already booked, two weeks is just not enough.

Big plus points – The dive team and the hotel staff all are brilliant, too many to mention all of you, but thank you.

Down sides – No PIMMS, all the other places we have stayed at do Rohan managed to get two bottles for us with the promise of more next year.
Mosquitoes, they find me very tasty but not my wife??? A chap with a fogger comes round in the afternoon, but I don’t know how effective that is. We brought our own spray and burner for the room plus plenty of personal repellent, but they always seemed to get me.
The WiFi connection is expensive at $43 per week and although you have a WiFi signal the internet is intermittent and painfully slow.

Top Tip - Restaurant bookings for SRC are out on Thursday, off property reservations Friday at midday, they don’t take bookings after 6pm, get there early.
