We have stayed in beautiful hotels in a number of beautiful locations around the world, but none have been as good as La Toubana. We stayed in one of the sea view villas and this was simple but comfortable, in keeping with the feel of the hotel in general. The service in all areas of the hotel was exceptional and all the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

The setting of the hotel is gorgeous, laid out over a hillside leading down to a beautiful protected beach. While the path down to the beach is steep, there is a golf cart to take you back up and the staff are only too happy to do so.

The food and drink are of a high standard, and this really was a holiday I could not fault in any meaningful way.

Guadeloupe is a bit off the beaten path for American travelers, so we weren't quite sure what to expect on our recent trip. But we were very pleasantly surprised by La Toubana. The grounds are beautiful, we loved our spacious villa accommodations, the restaurant was excellent, and the staff were extremely welcoming. The beach area, though not large, is designed in such a way that there is ample seating, and we spent many happy hours lying by the water, taking in the sun and the breezes.

From what we could tell, La Toubana is definitely a step above the other hotels on Grande Terre, the part of Guadeloupe with large beach resorts. Combining a stay at La Toubana with a few days on Basse-Terre -- the more verdant half of Guadeloupe -- was, for us, the perfect way to experience this Caribbean island.

The bed linens are cleaned in a smelly detergent. I asked for a change to scentless bed linens and they had none available. One sniff of the pillow and I gad a horrible migraine triggered. Unable to adapt to simple variations in people's medical needs.
Also, bungalow very ugly. Did not feel like I was in the Carribean. It coukd have been NYC. Plunge pool miniscule.
NOT a 5 star hotel.
Don't waste your money
