Hotel is the best of the Puerto Plata strip. We have been to it about 5 times in 10 years and the Iberostar in Punta Cana twice. Different vibe than Punta Cana, smaller and more homey. Much quieter during the week but a big fiesta on the weekend when a lot of Dominicans come. Great liveliness in that, but if you want solitude don't sit at the pool, stay on the beach where it is quiet and empty. Also the buffet is busier on the weekends with the bigger crowd but again, it is lively and you are in the middle of the fun. You can walk a half property west and can't go further into the isolation. Go east and the local beach shops are a bazaar, and then the local beach shacks are awesome for local food, music and coconuts etc. Beach vendors are less aggressive than other places. After that it is a lot of hotels and the beach keeps getting even prettier. Food is good but for 6 days it doesn't change a lot. 3 restaurants plus the buffet was good for us but again, for 6 days you might want another restaurant. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Joselito and Juan at the beach club were half the fun of the beach they kept your drinks coming and surprised us with plates of fruit. In the office, Perla and Marlon knew what you wanted before...Hotel is the best of the Puerto Plata strip. We have been to it about 5 times in 10 years and the Iberostar in Punta Cana twice. Monkey excursion perfect for kids. The beach ATV and snorkel trip from Sosua were close by and also a good diversion, you are back by 2 to finish up at your hotel beach. Puerto Plata is not the premier #1 DR destination anymore but if you go in for the value, and remind yourself this place is really pretty, the staff is great and Iberostar is Iberostar you will have a good time. Time your stay around the weekend to suit what you want out of your trip and it will be even better for your own needs.More
