Great stay at a fabulous hotel! We would definitely return if ever in Curacao.
The staff was helpful. There were many food options on site.
It was a quiet and relaxing place to stay for vacation.
The hotel was in close proximity to many of the activities that we chose to do.

We chose the Avila Hotel after some online research as the location for our honeymoon. We could not have been more pleased with our stay! The hotel is clean, the staff friendly, and the location is beyond amazing. We enjoyed the hotel property so much, we spent most of our time there and explored the island only on two of our six days. A couple staff members that made our stay even better were Sasha, Alexander, and Gary. As former bartenders and servers ourselves, we are both understanding of the job and also expect great service. While all of the staff at Avila were good, these three provided amazing service and great tips for sightseeing around the island. We will definitely be returning to Curacao and staying at Avila as well as recommending it to all our friends and family!

This is a lovely historic property, with a number of different room types in buildings of varying ages and features. We stayed in the Octagon Wing - very modern, and with ocean views. The room was a little on the small side, but well-appointed, with a lovely bathroom and toiletries, and a balcony. The room has Wi-Fi, a refrigerator, coffee-maker, hairdryer and a safe. Please note that this wing has 220 outlets, which can be safely used with American electronics, but you will need an adaptor to plug in - and the number of available outlets is somewhat limited (we were constantly unplugging something to plug in laptop or charger).
Unless you are laid-back and not looking for many services, Americans may not be totally satisfied with this hotel. The property has a pool (4' deep except at entry/exit steps) and 2 small public beaches - both are lagoon-like, chest-deep up to the seawall, but once past the wall you can swim or snorkel in the open sea. Note that there are NO lifeguards on duty at either the beach or pool. There is no kiddie pool or Jacuzzi. And poolside service is very spotty.
There are several restaurants on the property - a café that serves only buffet breakfast, plus lunch; a pool bar that opens at 9 and offers breakfast items, lunch and snacks, Blues Bar is casual and has live jazz on Thursday nights, Belle Terrace is fine dining. Food is solid, but not anything special and service is slow and a little spotty. The gift shop (which has snacks, water and soft drinks among other things) is open 9-12:30 and 1:30-5PM - so after that, you can't get a quick snack or dessert. Though the area around the hotel is a little rough, hotel security is excellent - even on the street outside the hotel property. There are 4 restaurants only about a block or so from the hotel (Rozendaels, Fishalicious, Serafina and Mosa) that can offer you variety within reach (if you don't have a car or don't want to call a cab). No problem walking to any of them. The one problem with the tight security is that as soon as the sun goes down, the gates providing easy access to your room from the parking lot are locked and there is no key access - you have to walk all the way to the lobby and through the buildings from the inside to get to your room.
While the staff does try to give good service, it falls a bit flat. Service was very slow both times we ate at the hotel. Also, we had asked the front desk to book a reservation at a restaurant for that same night, but until we checked back with them, we were not advised that it had not been made. The agent told us the restaurant was closed and recommended another in Punda. When we went to this 2nd restaurant, IT was closed. We found somewhere else to eat, but when we drove back to the hotel, we passed the restaurant which we had originally asked them to book for us - it was open and we could have gotten a much better meal there.
Overall, we had a nice stay, once we decided not to expect much in the way of services. If you are expecting relaxation and would not be bothered by the hotel's limitations, you will have a wonderful stay. But if you are expecting the type of services available at American hotels like the Marriott or Hitlon, you might be a bit disappointed.

Our perfect location for an important event in our lives. Zatessa was my heaven sent wedding planner. The patience she had for my precise requests and yet uncommitted plans, made it all the more reason a seamless experience. The beautiful surprise of our honeymoon suite was exciting and breathtaking! Our children were very much a part of the whole journey and experience. and the food, amazing!!!! My decorator Gina and her team were so much fun to play with my ideas and the cake decorator, David impressed me with his work.....exactly as I requested. The band, little Garden and DJ Boogieman had great music especially for mi amor. Kathy & Johnny with our families, thank you for a very special moment in our lives and an evening that will last forever!!!!!

This is a beautiful looking-hotel with well-kept grounds and beach (except for the broken table on the beach that everyone just ignored) and nicely designed restaurants with good food. However, there were numerous issues which spoiled the effect for us. We stayed in the Blues wing, facing west, which is right over the water with a view to die for but there is no screen on the sliding door to the private deck so you cannot leave the door open all night and listen to the waves. There is no fan in the bathroom and things were perpetually fogged up, the small window didn't open in our room. There was no chest of drawers to put clothes in (despite lots of empty space in the room) so we lived out of suitcases. The bathroom is small with an unnecessary giant double sink that leaves no counter space for items. We had to change rooms half-way through our week in order to get the room we had initially asked for (months in advance) and to do that we had to pack up and take everything down to the front desk and wait all day. When we went back at the requested time we were told (twice) to come back later. In any other hotel we would just leave our luggage in the old room and it would be moved into the new room by staff. It's an issue with the Blues wing because there are no elevators to the second floor so it's difficult to move luggage up and down the stairs. Housekeeping was slow, and hit or miss. Sometimes towels were changed, sometimes not. We had no robes in our closet, and not even a "do not disturb" sign to hang on the door. On three occasions we had to chase down soap and shampoo, and coffee pods for the machine, and after the housekeeping staff is gone the front desk gives quite a runaround. We were sent to several different departments and nobody seemed to know what to do. Some tried to charge for coffee pods that should have been left in our room in the first place. It leaves an impression of cheapness, which is unfortunate for the price of this place. Other staff issues on site - drinks took forever to arrive, very few staff smiled, some didn't know what was included with our room, and nobody came to open the gift shop until 45 minutes after the posted time. We watched while about 15 potential spenders came, tried the door, and left. The "pool closed" sign remained on the pool long after the posted opening time. Again, a number of guests came and left. Overall, it felt like staff was not properly trained or motivated, that there was nobody in charge, and that guests were not treated as they would be at other hotels of comparable size. As a final note - although it's called the Blues wing, and there is a Blues restaurant - there is no actual blues music anywhere near this place. There is apparently jazz music in the blues restaurant but the helpful staff member gave us the wrong time for that so we missed it...so, fix the management/staff issues and this place could be something special.

Room Tip: Room 291 at the end of the Blues wing has views to the east and west, and a large unobstructed deck.
