We stayed here for for nights as our base for exploring Havana from. We had a large air conditioned room with en suite bathroom for 35 CUC per night plus 5 CUC for breakfast. The breakfast regime was very relaxed. Just turn up between 8 and 11 but make sure you've told them the day before that you'll be eating. And it's worth it. Strong coffee, tea options, a large plate of fresh fruit, followed by egg of your choice and salad. Oh and thick fresh fruit juice.
The room itself was comfortable and grand, by guest house standards. The shower was a little unpredictable... always hot but at times too hot.
The staff were really helpful. Unfortunately our attempts to learn Spanish resulted in a few poorly remembered phrases so we were grateful for the level of English from the guys working there. They helped sort out things like taxis, restaurant booking and where to get out money. The housekeeping team were lovely too and kept the place clean. We did a laundry wash whilst there and they were super quick with it.
The veranda is beautiful with lovely views across the neighbourhood.
The Casa is about 5 minutes walk if that, from plaza Vieja and old town. It's close to a beer hall, a craft market, and the house of rum museum. Yet it is firmly an area of the town lived in and loved by locals.
I miss the cry of El Pan from the street sellers coming up through the balcony.
