We had a package holiday booked in Varedero but wanted to visit Havana for three nights. We emailed David from the UK and got very prompt replies which surprised us as the internet is not widely available locally unless you visit the designated wifi areas (generally Park Squares)
There wasnt room in the main house but we stayed in one of his other Casa's Little David nearby. We had a very warm welcome, staff and David speak english (and several other languages.) nothing is too much trouble and they recommended resturants and gave us some advice on the CUC currency and where we wouldnt be able to spend it, what we could expect to pay for a taxi back to the Casa etc. If you are travelling elsewhere the staff will ring and find you a Casa at your next destination.
Little David is colonial with very high ceilings. Our room was very grand with a chandelier, large comfortable bed, air conditioning, a fridge and a fan as well as an ensuite bathroom. It was spotless, cleaned every day with fresh towells and sheets. The courtyard was lovely with rocking chairs to chill at the end of the day and watch the resident turtles in the pond.
Coffee and juices were available at the main house at any time of day and we were given keys for both houses. Breakfast was served in the main house with a large variety...We had a package holiday booked in Varedero but wanted to visit Havana for three nights. The casa's are in Central Havana within walking distance of all the sights, old Havana etc and provides a fascinating insight into life in Cuba. Dont be put off by the outside of the Casa/street. You will be walking into a piece of heaven.
David is a vet and is currently nuturing 2 baby alligators in the main house but dont worry although they have the run of the courtyard they generally stayed out of our way and we loved seeing them.
We would recommend a visit to Davids and will certainly be returning some day to tour Cuba and ditching the package holiday starting in this Casa instead.
