We had a wonderful time snorkelling right at the resort. You can enter along the floating dock near the Activity Centre, at a few spots along the beach, or down the steps at the other end by the restaurant. The latter ended up being our favourite spot because it is easy to get in and out there. Look under the stairs for a school of glassy sweepers. Also the most interesting coral and fish were at that end towards the channel for the marina.

We were thrilled to see large French angelfish, morays, groupers, and puddingwives. We saw chromies, hindfish, hogfish, parrotfish and schools of blue tangs. The puffers, trunkfish, cowfish, and spotted filefish were great fun. One day we were lucky to see a green sea turtle. Sadly, it had a fish hook in its mouth. A snorkelling buddy showed us a tiny Pygmy filefish, a most unusual fish, which went back and forth along one line of buoys.

One day we went on a wonderful Seacow snorkel trip to Klein Bonaire. We were lucky to see a turtle there too! I have posted a review for Seacow.

The Plaza Beach Resort attracts many scuba divers. However they do not affect the beach because the dive boats use a channel from the marina at the far south end. So it is fairly safe to snorkel all along the beach except for the occasional snorkel boat and kayaks.

The grounds are beautiful with oleanders, bougainvillaea and greenery albeit some fountains and serving areas are defunct. The rooms and wining and dining were better than expected. Our Grand Suite Laguna was on the ground floor and had a view of the channel. We found it very convenient, close to the restaurant and our snorkel area. The house wines are Frontera; the sparkling is a dry Proseco. The buffet has different choices each day, most of it interesting, and good. The local dishes and Dutch fare were very tasty but most of the beef was tough and gristly. My favourites were coconut shrimp, mushroom soup, and all kinds of fish. I was glad to have lots of salad, fruits and vegetables. The staff were relaxed, and very nice. My special thanks to Nelly at the restaurant. Masha danke and sayonara to Dianara, at the Beach Bar.

About 70 of us took a dive trip to Bonaire and stayed at the Plaza. What a great week. Lots of good food, 2 morning dives and alcohol was included. The staff was very friendly and a special thanks to Quincey to make sure our dinners were enjoyable. The restaurant had various selections which was great as I have a serious shellfish allergy but I still had a lot of food to choose from. We would definitely return.

After a very short five minute ride from the airport we arrived at the Plaza Beach resort. We were greeted with a cold fruit juice drink in the lobby.
Check in was quick and painless. The young fellow behind the desk was courteous and most helpful. He explained the room location, and the general resort layout. Also informed us and that our luggage would be delivered to our room upon arrival from the airport.

We headed out and found our room. Very large, clean, and quite spacious. The room contained two queen beds as expected, lots of storage space, and and an empty mini fridge! We were on the ground floor and had a nice sized patio with chairs and a table.
We dropped our carry on bags a headed to the restaurant for some diner. The "Tipsy Seagull" is an open air buffet with tables set on two levels. the lower table sat directly on a sand floor and had a very nice ocean view. The service was a little slow but acceptable.

We surveyed the food selection and found a fair variety of dishes contained under plastic covers. The food was not overly hot which was a little disappointing. A selection of rice, vegetables, a fish dish, and a chicken dish was served. Two pre-made salads were also available along with the fixings to make your own. Soup was also available. The desert table was fairly limited with a fruit salad and a couple of cake selections. This food was tasty and acceptable.

We found the resort in general clean and well kept.
After diner we made out way to the one bar on site, the Coconut Crash. This was located just off the main beach area, and was relatively busy. The bartenders were pleasant, and looked after us quickly. A menu of the various drinks was available. A good number of chairs and tables were available around the bar.

The following morning, breakfast at buffet had a good selection of eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon and an omelet station.A variety of fruit juices and coffee were also available.

The beach was quite large and was a mixture of sand and crushed coral. There were lots of comfortable beach chairs, and a good number of huts for shade if required. Believe me, the sun is intense, so shade is necessary! We did nor use the pool, but it looked well kept and comfortable as well.
I would recommend water shoes to enter the water as the coral was right to the edge of the beach. There is a floating dock that you can use to get into and out of the water to avoid the coral. This was used by most people at the beach as it was just easier.

The water in Bonaire is very clear and relatively warm. The snorkeling was good right off the beach. Lots of fish and rocks and coral to explore. We spent at least 3 to 4 hours a day in the water and explored the entire shoreline along the beach form end to end. Even with all this water time we never came across a sea turtle which was disappointing but there are guarantees that you will see one.

There was some limited activities at the beach, but not much too do but drink and sit in the sun, and snorkel or dive. Relaxing but gets bit boring near the end of the week!

The one thing that the Plaza Beach did not have, was any kind of entertainment in the evening for the guests! This was disappointing as again you can only sit at the bar and play cards for so long! It made the evening hours long and kind of boring. We were heading to bed at 9pm to 10pm as there was just nothing else to do. There was a Casino in the resort, but it was largely empty whenever we walked by. Not everyone's cup of tea while on vacation.

Overall a good relaxing trip with some good snorkeling. This resort really caters to divers and the Toucan dive shop was well equipped and helpful. Maybe in the future the resort can focus on getting some other entertainment to fill in the evening hours which would be enjoyed by all I'm sure!
