“Divi Dive Bonaire - always a great experience!!”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

I have been coming to the Divi Flamingo in Bonaire for 12 years now and while I have traveled all over the Caribbean and as far as Egypt, the Divi Dive operation and the convenience they offer is one of the best I’ve seen.

The Divi Dive operation is run on a tight schedule by the dive shop manager Serge. All divers first have to go through the dive orientation, Alvin does those a lot, to make sure all divers are aware of the rules of the marine park and of course the boat departure times. All boats leave in the morning at 8:30 AM for a two tank dive and a one tank dive in the afternoon at 2:00 PM. The dive staff at the Divi is fantastic, and a lot of them have been there for many, many years. Enrique can find pretty much anything you ask for, Orlando, Rofino, Laurel, Luis, Max, Ruud just to name some...... they are all great and always fun to have on the boats. The dive shop rents any equipment you may need, is knowledgeable and will assist you with any questions you may have

For those that prefer shore diving, I hear that Bonaire is one of the best in the world. Personally I prefer boat or dock dives, but we always see cars parked and divers coming in from the shore. Off the dock at the Divi is the Calabas reef which in itself is a very nice dive site, night diving there is the easiest around. Grab a tank and go. Tanks are conveniently located at the end of the pier where the lockers are. Make sure to bring your own lock for the lockers though. There are hangers in the locker to hang your wetsuits, it's nice not having to drag them to your room.

For the most part I've been staying in the studio rooms which are equipped with everything you need. A kitchen that includes a fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee machine, blender, pots and pans, etc. There are several stores within walking distance to get groceries and for the times you don't want to cook, plenty of restaurants can be found in walking distance as well. The studio rooms have a nice screened in porch, if you plan to hang your laundry, bring clothesline, pins and some hooks.

We made our 10th trip to Bonaire and the 8th at the Divi Flamingo. Each year since we have been coming to the Divi there have been many, many noticeable improvements made each year. This year was no exception. The hotel staff, housekeeping, groundskeepers, restuarant staff go out of their way to make your experience wonderful. I have yet to meet an employee with a bad attitude. They will even recognize repeat visitors upon our return. So it feels like you are coming home. Food is wonderful. The GM comes to the restuarant to visit with the guests as well as sometimes taking her lunch break at the Chibi Chibi.
I cannot say enough about Serge and the dive staff. They are the best on the island. Many have been with the Divi a long time and that says alot. Equipment issues no problem for them. It is either fixed or gear swapped out and you never miss a dive. Divi is nothing but SERVICE,SERVICE, SERVICE.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. But oceanfront is nice.

I have been to the Divi twice and have to say that they offer some of the most accessible scuba diving for divers with a disability. The resort offeres several wheelchair accessible cabins, and although the 'accessible' bathrooms leave a little to be desired, the rest of the room is very good. The biggest challenge in the bathroom is the shower...it is intended to be a roll-in, but the space is too small and the pull down shower chair is not quite what I've come to expect with accessibility.
Now, all that being said, the accessible diving is second to none! The staff at the dive shop go above and beyond to accommodate divers with a disability. They are friendly, helpful, courteous, and they really respect us as divers.
I would wholeheartedly reccommend the Divi as a destination for diving, and well worth any disadvantages that the bathroom might have. As I have told others, if you want your environment to be perfect, stay at home. I personally do not want to stay at home, as this world has too many things to see and do, and diving in Bonaire is one of them.
We will be going for two weeks next year, as one week just isn't enough!

Had a great time last week at the Divi Flamingo. The room was great. Was kept nice and clean and the snorkeling was second to none from shore as well as with the Dee and the Woodwind group. Tghe staff at the Divi were very curtious and helpful. We look forward to going back as soon as we can. Carl & Gail Pieper

Room Tip: I recomend trying to get in the 701 to 710 room area or above them to catch the fantastic trade wind...

I have been going to the Divi Flamingo for about 10 years, though some ups and downs, and now definitely on the up again. The most outstanding feature is the dive shop. Serge, the staff and divemasters are outstanding. How they help the disabled divers is an inspiration. And the easy operation and dive boats make it a pleasure for all of us. I love the way the hotel is built right at water's edge (although that does mean little or no beach). It is the closest thing to being on a boat, being able to take morning coffee out on a stone pier and watch birds and fish. The bright colors add up to a funky charm that makes it easy to ignore any flaws. Short walk along the waterfront to town to a variety of good restaurants.
