Owner description: "Pink beach" on the southwestern coast bearing cubby-house-sized stone huts in which slaves working the saltpans used to sleep.

To see this location, in a barren, hot land, you realise what a hard life the slaves and locals had. Horrific.

It's worth a quick stop to see these if you are driving by. I don't think I'd make a special trip to these white slave huts unless you're really a history buff, or unless this is something you are extremely interested in seeing, in which case you probably wouldn't be basing your decision to go or not on any reviews that you read here.

My husband and I stopped here between dives to not only see a little bit of the history of the island. It was very eye opening to read about how the people lived & why they were placed here & as well ae how small the houses were that they were placed in.

In between dives my husband and I stopped at Witte Pan. Interested in the history behind Bonaire, it was worth the 5-10 minutes we spent. Its just amazing to see how small the homes were for the slaves. Really makes you appreciate what you have. If you are in the area its worth stopping by. It only takes about 5 minutes to take a look and then off you go.

There are two groups of slave huts on this road. The ones painted white are accompanied by a historical marker that tells about when they were constructed and a little bit about the lives of the people who used them and why. The yellow huts have no historical information that we could find. Both groups of huts are in great condition but completely empty; if you crawl in one and look around, you've had the experience. My kids had fun playing hide-and-seek here.
