My favourite restaurant in Barbados. Good food, their tuna tartare is to die for, great steaks and seafood, everything we've tried was always good. Best location on the west coast, waterfront, fantastic service, very professional staff and management. Expensive but well worth it in my opinion.

If you are accustomed to dining out at 5 star restaurants in mid-town NYC, than The Cliff will make you feel at home. This is a once a while type place to dine, and can cost quite a bit for the meal without drinks or wine with dinner. If I had looked at the prices beforehand, probably would not have gone. I didn't and I'm glad that I went - great dining experience - romantic. The view is amazing as is the service, best on the island. The food is incredible. but the desserts are so so. This place has seating on several levels to provide a view of the well- light cover. We sat up high and actually liked the view and privacy. The tables are not on top of each other so have the private feeling when you dine.

A travel agent recommend this place and by the pictures alone I was impressed. Booked about a month out and requested water's edge table (KEY). I knew it was expensive so you gotta know that ahead of time as there are no prices on the menu online or otherwise. It's about $150 US Dollars for a two course meal plus cocktails. If you're willing to spend the $$, the view and location are worth that alone. If ambiance is important to you, THIS is the place!! The Lounge area is upstairs and literally winds around the shore of the ocean. Leather chairs and plenty of room to have a cocktail before dinner OR just go for drinks. Dinner area is downstairs. The place is completely lit by Tiki torches and cauldrons, about 20 of them are lit each night. Make a reservation slightly before sunset. It's the BEST time to be there. You are right on the west coast so perfect view of ocean, and the boats and catamarans sailing against the setting sun is a view second to none! We ordered Oysters, Mahi and Beef Tenderloin. Both were outstanding. The Mahi melted in your mouth. We stayed right outside Bridgetown and it was about a 40 minute drive to The Cliff. MUST do in Barbados!! Worth every penny.

This threatened to be our last visit to Barbados so we determined not to miss trying The Cliff as it is always top of recommended locations with a long standing good reputation.
For many it stands apart as excellent, so how did we fare?
A warm welcome at the door then entry into the reception area which was a tad disappointing until we were through and seated on the terrace. As it was still light we proceeded to order cocktails and relax in low slung leather chairs to toast the sunset until the allocated hour for our table arrived. Had service been more attentive we could easily have managed another cocktail and once the time of our booking arrived we found ourselves looking around for service. It proved a short enough wait and a charming hostess showed us to our spot. By this time dark had descended and the dramatic torches provided a contrast to the inky black night and this created a very special atmosphere.
I think we had expected a tasting menu option however none was on offer and the a la Carte selection provided adequate choice for the three traditional starter, main and deserts with a heavy slant on Thai influenced dishes.
We professed ourselves pleased with our choices however avoiding rich creamy sauces narrowed the selection dramatically. The food was delicious and presented artistically. The menu felt slightly stuck in a time warp but the the quality of the ingredients was first class and the meal was enjoyable in every sense.
Why did we come away feeling happy to have enjoyed the experience of the much vaunted Cliff and yet tinged with a mild regret over the size of the bill? Was it that good? Not really. We have enjoyed many gourmet dining occasions of equivalent quality with considerably less outlay. I guess importing the acceptable quality of ingredients comes at a significant cost which is then passed onto those of us in search of a memorable Bajan dining experience!

I booked The Cliff 9 months ago having visited this restaurant on several occasions previously and had wonderful evenings! However, unfortunately the management service was lacking this time. On arrival we were seated on sofas that were so low that for us older generation were impossible to get up from elegantly and guests arriving after us were served their cocktails before our order was taken. We were escorted to our table late and then allocated one which was not as promised on all correspondence with the restaurant. Quietly pointing this out to one of the escort staff who conferred with the Management Team, we were then escorted to the table we had been promised.

I have to say that the food when it arrived was excellent, however the waiters were left not knowing what to do as the food for all tables was so slow coming out of the kitchens that were at a loss as to how to explain the long waits to the guests.

We adjourned back upstairs for an after dinner digestif and The Cliff’s renown chocolates, which unfortunately sat on the bar for a good 10 minutes before being brought to our table!!!

What a shame for us as returning guests - a potential highlight of our holiday! The food, the waiting staff and the ambience as excellent as ever, however the Management Team cannot rely on this beautiful location and the quality of the food if they don’t deliver management service to their guests. They are now in fierce competition with other fabulous restaurants on Barbados and need to step up to the mark and not rely on previous historic reputation and charisma.

Overall we enjoyed the food, but were left disappointed, what a shame!
