It was late afternoon but well within the time the market is open but things had become a little slow. The stalls outside and some inside the building were still there with the colourful characters and produce, mainly fruit and vegetable, but it seemed like many were winding down for the day. Good building, well laid out but quiet so the early morning atmosphere I had heard about had dwindled in the daytime sunshine. Still an interesting place and one where you'll meet many of the locals and they are a friendly lot. I like these markets usually but perhaps we were a little late. Better make it a morning time to visit to get a better feel for the place.

This market is where the locals come to shop. It was crowded and not the cleanest. Lots of vegetables.

I love to visit colorful local markets and this was it. Vegetables, spices, and everything else one would want to find in a tropical marketplace. I got some fresh spices and a lot of sauces plus a lot of pictures, just a great spot. It may not be clean but it was colorful and with some musicians playing as well.

We combined this with a visit to the fish Market just a few minutes walk away, it is very close to the main Bus station served by Blue and Yellow Buses. If you want to know what they are selling just ask politely and stall holders will be pleased to explain. Upstairs are some food stalls and we ate in the first one at the top of the stairs on the right. Banks Beer and Fish Cakes with Chilli dip, also a "Roti" which is a bit like a cross between a Cornish Pasty and a Samosa or Ravioli? Spiced meat and potato in a steamed parcel, very good indeed with a cold beer. Don't be afraid to try this welcoming clean and delicious place for Bajan street-food.
