We were looking for a quiet retreat for two after sailing the French Antilles with friends prior. The apartment was ideal being just a 20 minute walk to Falmouth Harbour and about 30 minutes to English Harbour. We did not take advantage of renting the 2 bicycles available opting to walk instead. There is a great food stall nearby that sells wonderful baguettes in the morning. There were plenty of lunch spots and dinner restaurants in the area, particularly in either Harbours.
The Villa is on the edge of town up the hillside with an incredible view of Falmouth Harbour allowing you to sit and enjoy the sailboats, yachts and Caribbean sunsets. It is very peaceful. There are different balconies available when staying in the Blue Lotus room. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony off the bedroom in the morning and loved the garden balcony off the kitchen for dining when we stayed in and cooked. We often took our afternoon cocktails up to the balcony on the 3rd floor where the resteraunt used to be. Much to our disappointment it has closed but guests can utilize the balcony sitting areas as they wish.
Christophe, the French chef, lives on the property and treated us like old friends! Even though his job as a chef is very demanding, he drove us to a nearby grocery store the first day. He also insisted on being our personal guide and drove us around the area a few days later. It was a thrilling 4-wheel drive tour to the top of Antigua, visiting Forts and ruins all while enjoying spectacular views. Absolutely wonderful! Mark the co-owner also stopped by one evening; we enjoyed cocktails and great conversation late into the night.
Villa Touloulou is good for an independent couple who want privacy, peace and quiet and do not need the usual hotel amenities.
