“Sensational!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 December 2011

I had the privelage of staying at The Villas at Sunset Lane in Feb 2010 where we were superbly looked after by Jackie and her fantastic staff. The food was THAT good that I went back to visit during a very brief trip to Antigua in Dec '11. Once again, we were very well looked after-thanks Jackie, hopefully see you in 2012!!

We can only echo all the good reviews this great little hotel has received. We spent six nights at the Villas which were perfect for relaxation before a busy conference.

Jacqui is indeed a charming host with a warm welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. I gashed my leg (my fault and I was sober at the time!) and Jacqui went twice to the pharmacist for medication.

As a cook she follows modern trends in buying the best raw materials and showing them to perfection. We expressed a preference for fish and received meals based successively on shrimp, spiny lobster from Barbuda and, the highlight, blackened "Banga Mary" (a delicious freshwater fish comparable with trout). Vegetables included okra from the garden and a butternut squash soup to die for.

The villas themselves are the product of Jacqui’s dream. Custom built, they are a clever adaptation of the traditional spacious hillside plantation house, designed to take advantage of every breeze available and offering stunning views of a beautiful bay. Rooms are large and scrupulously clean. They feature ingenious and effective mosquito screens, a properly maintained air-conditioning system and old-fashioned but effective 'punkah' overhead fans. Free high-grade WIFI was a bonus.

We must also acknowledge Ryan, her handyman/driver, who was a perfect chauffeur, for example negotiating the pre-booked wheelchair at the airport before he would let us out of the car. If they are not too busy it may even be able to borrow him as a driver for a nominal extra gratuity.

All in all lovely people, a great location, clever architecture and a truly relaxing experience.

Villas at Sunset Lane in Antigua is the best kept secret in Antigua. This boutique hotel is run by Jackie who is amazing and very attentive. We arrived in Antigua at 9:30 PM and were greeted by her staff at the airport and taken to the hotel. She settled us in our beautiful room #5 and had a wonderful supper ready. Jackie assisted us in renting a vehicle; she arranged for a car to be delivered and picked up at the hotel. We wanted to see Barbuda which she organized morning flight, tour guide on Barbuda and return boat trip. We were dropped off in morning with sandwiches in hand and picked up from the boat in the evening. Antigua was celebrating their Independence Day with week long activities and Jackie wanted us experience this by taking us to the Student Steel Pan competition one evening in St. John's.
Jackie is an excellent chef and the highlight of our days consisted of sitting on the deck with the most amazing views enjoying the first class meals and her rum punch. She also offers cooking classes which we did take advantage of.
The staff was wonderful. All inclusive was taken to another level with the personal touches! The hotel is beautifully situated on a hillside with amazing views. There are different room plans to choose from that meet many needs. The pool is a nice treat in the late afternoon. There is a beautiful beach which is about a ten minute walk.
It was very hard to leave Villas at Sunset Lane. The exceptional friendliness and attentiveness was going to be missed and we did promise to be back.

My wife and I stayed here at the end of our Honeymoon in January. We spent 5 days at a 5 star resort in Antigua, 5 days at an incredible resort on Anguilla (Cap Juluca ... amazing!) and then 5 days here. The home cooking was fantastic and everyone was friendly and helpful. If you're looking for somewhere in a good location to see all the things the island has to offer at a decent price I'd highly recommend them. If you're just looking to stay on a resort and walk down to the beach everyday some of the other resorts on the island might be better for you.

This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a low key, quaint, experience. The owner, Jackie was the most gracious host I've ever met in my 20+ years of traveling the world. She is an incredible chef and she prepares the meals for her guests from fresh foods and fish from local farmers. To get to the beach, you have to walk about 7 minutes, but other than that, you will really enjoy your experience here.
