A group of 8 had a table booked for a friends birthday, we arrived half hour early but the table was ready and we had drinks. Nobody offered to bring us menus, we had to ask them at the bar. We then were brought chutney tray and poppadoms. Another half hour went and we still hadn't had our order taken. Every waiter was just walking past, when asked they said they would get someone else to take the order. Eventually it was taken. we all ordered onion bhaji's to start with (one portion per couple, so 4 altogether) we then ordered two curries, rice and chips per couple. An hour passed and we still hadn't received the starters. Bearing in mind we had a taxi booked for 9.30pm. We asked a waitress who went to check with the kitchen and we were told they would be out soon. Another half hour had passed, we asked again....only to be told by another waiter that there was no onion bhaji's available. And we could pick something else if wanted. We were not happy and said just bring the mains out. Another 45 minutes....9.15pm at this point our mains arrived.....food was cold, naan bread tasted like fish, and every curry on the table tasted EXACTLY the same...even though there was varieties (bhuna, balti, jalfrezi, rogan josh) that same waiter then came with 2 plates of onion bhajis the kitchen had magically found, but there was only 4 between 8 people. When we were eating our food a young waitress came over and said that she had talked to the manager and we could have 20% off the bill. We said we weren't happy with that and if she could go back to the manager as we missed the taxi, slow service and unacceptable food. 10pm came and we hadn't heard nothing so we decided to leave, we went to the bar to talk to the manager, who totalled up our bill, we refused to pay the whole bill. She compromised, but we feel this was more than they deserved.
I should also point out that we were not the only table to complain on this night, we saw 4 other tables complaining...1 table even walked.

Toilets - the ladies toilets....one door had an out of use note on it, only the disabled and one other toilet was in use. The next visit, that note had been taken off the door and put on the disabled toilet. No toilet paper in the one and someone had not cleaned up after themselves in the other. I highly doubt these toilets are maintained.

Service - 4 waiters serving. They are either talking behind the bar, attending the takeaways or just walking around listening to peoples complaints. The poor young girls working here were taking the brunt of it because no manager or supervisor would come talk to anyone.

The problem with this place is that they are trying to do so much. It had been two years since i visited last time (vowing never to return due to slow service and horrible staff) but as it was my friends birthday and they had since introduced a buffet, i was willing to give them a chance to see if they had changed. Most people were there for the buffet, which is fair enough but if they offer a buffet they should also not offer the main restaurant menu too as they clearly cannot cope. Along with the takeaways, that had people queuing up in the bar area for. One thing i must say about the buffet, i was sat near the door so could see everything in the bar area, at no point did i see them replenish the food for the buffet, and we were there 3 hours, surely there is some law about the amount of time food can stay out in buffet situations??

Overall i can safely say they have lost customers in us, along with the people that are listening to our experience.

We had just visited one of the worst Indian restaurants ever and walked out before ordering...I got straight onto Google and found The Ambala was only 3 miles away so decided to try it. It was a Saturday evening and they were offering a buffet style menu or you could chose from the main menu, we opted for the buffet. The food was beautiful, the service was also great. The only negatives I found was that the car park is too small and we had to park on the road outside and the air conditioning was on and made the restaurant feel quite cold.

I booked to stay here on Booking.com for Steelhouse Festival. Due to fly over on Friday morning I received a phone call on Wed night 19.15 telling me it had been double booked and there was no room. Small village, booked out, stranded.

I have only visited twice and each time had the buffet menu which i found great value.
The staff bring plates and poppadoms and you just help yourself to a variety of dips, sweet chili, mint, mango chutney, etc. There is a nice choice of starters, onion bhaji, pakoras samosas, tikka, and i think a choice of 4 main dishes with a variety of flavoured rices, chips, salads and even a choice of desserts...fruit salad, mini cheesecakes. The staff are very helpful, all in all a decent and comfortable place to eat.
