When you plan a visit to a part of Quebec you have never been to, in our case the Eastern Townships, your stay over and surroundings are very important. Basically, if you are not looked after with a clean, comfortable room and amazing customer service, then you're not going to have fun!
My wife and I looked very hard for places to stay for our visit to Knowlton (Lac Brome) and surrounding towns/villages. After some quick reviews, we chose La Venise Verte B&B. And we're glad we made that decision. Both our hosts Raymonde and Andre made our stay quite pleasant. There were no ceremonial signing of papers/documents upon arrival: Our arrival was graciously expected and we were greeted with smiles. They took us right to our room first to drop off our luggage. Then, we were shown the B&B and its amenities. Raymonde, who first greeted us, showed us all the available brochures for the area: restaurants, museums, theatre, marina, etc. She was quick to answer any question(s) that we had. Her English is good; her French is impeccable! Remember: you're visiting a new area and are there to relax and enjoy... so be comfortable with your host(s) and surroundings!
Let's cut to the breakfast part: Breakfast is offered between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The B&B has four charming tables and the chairs are quite eclectic. Music is quietly played from a sound system in the background. A very serene mood.
Andre, greets you with freshly brewed coffee (the best I have since tasted in a B&B). We do mean fresh! They brew just enough to serve and brew another batch immediately after just to ensure freshness. Your breakfast journey starts with a choice of either orange or grapefruit juice. Freshly baked muffin (for those who are gluten intolerant, like my wife, Raymonde baked gluten free muffins). They do look after any food allergies - just make sure they are made aware prior to your arrival.
Following the muffins, our first morning had velvety smooth omelets with artisanal cheese. The bread for our toast is freshly baked (again, GF toast was made available). We finish with a lovely fruit salad. I would love to tell you about each morning's breakfast; but, that would take away the pleasure of your visit's surprise. In maintaining high quality ingredients, Raymonde makes sure that every one of our breakfast dishes are prepared with locally and/or organically grown produce. Our hosts make sure that your day begins with a full tummy! We can attest to that!!
So, something about the B&B itself: it has a wrap-around deck with tables and chairs. We took advantage of them one afternoon by enjoying a glass of wine and enjoying some local cheese. Apart from the odd car driving by, it was very quiet and relaxing.
They do have a swimming pool. Unfortunately, we never did get a chance to use it! It looked lovely but the weather was not cooperating during our stay.
The B&B has plenty of parking. One advice? Back you car in, if at all possible. It's much easier to exit.
All in all, your question to us is, would we return to La Venise Verte? Absolutely!!
Did we enjoy our stay? Yes we did... and so will you!! Abientôt!
