Went for Sunday lunch. Female waiting staff were nice and Sunday roast was lovely. Experience was slightly soured when my friend and I went to pay the bill. We were splitting the bill and both using debit cards (probably a bit annoying for the person accepting payment but it is simply the way of the world now). We handed the gentleman behind the bar our bill and suggested we would like to simply split it. He abruptly handed it back to me and said “you work it out”. He wasn’t smiling, he seemed irritated. He was rude. He didn’t ask if we had enjoyed our meal and quite frankly I walked out fuming. I was showing a friend the area and it left a poor impression. Shame, we had enjoyed our meal immensely.

Called in for a bar meal on way back from working away at a music festival. Having been on the road for a month going festival to festival it was great to relax and enjoy what all in our party described as gastro pub bliss.

Friendly staff, attentive service. Quality locally sourced ingredients. Beautiful food and served within a welcoming classic country pub. Achieves and delivers gastro pub type cuisine without the pretentiousness of Michelin star type pubs. But steak here is better than any Michelin venue I’ve dined at. Desserts show a tantalising brilliance that one would see at The Black Swan, Star Inn or even Chez Rouz.

No criticism at all. Two of our group live in Huddersfield and say they would travel just to eat here again.

I’ve just booked weekend of 7th September for two nights. Fully expect a wonderful stay.

We were en route from a day out on the coast and wanted something a bit different from the norm where we could eat and relax. Travelling on the main road we saw their sign pointing to the village and the country pub. Advertising certainly paid off for them and us because we enjoyed a lovely evening meal in a nice atmosphere and with excellent service. It was only when we parked up in the car park that we realised that this was the same place recommended to us by friends who have stayed and eaten here several times. We now know for ourselves what a great place this is. The village is lovely too and ideal for a short walk either prior to or after the meal. We will be recommending it ourselves from now on.

Spending a few days in the area and staying across the road from the pub. What a superb menu. Fabulous choices and exquisitely prepared. This is not your typical pub grub but top restaurant quality. If you’re stuck for what to order for desert try the assiette selection of all the deserts. Outstanding- but wear elasticated waistband! Ate in the bar area with our 2 dogs under the table. Wise to book if you want to bring your dogs along.

A lovely village location. We made a last minute booking, so couldn’t get a table until 8.30. Even though we were the last to leave we did not feel rushed
The staff were all welcoming and attentive.
The menu catered for all tastes and a good price.
