For the price, this hotel was sub-standard. The customer service folks were fine but the facilities are poor. What is up with the National Park Service hotels? Why do they have to be so bad? The room was filthy. Found used towels, pet food and other debris on the carpet, No air conditioning. Terrible water pressure in the shower and faucet. No coffee machine. No microwave. No refrigerator. Furniture, fixtures, carpet were all old.

Room tip: Your options are limited when you go to US national parks and they know it.

The main selling point of this hotel is the location inside the park. It is located in the heart of the park and most places are about 5-15 minutes from the property. The room that we stayed in was located in the Stewart building on the top floor. The room was okay, it was good enough to sleep in. The food at the main building was good, but not worth the money. The WiFi didn't work very well but I guess that that may be sort of a good thing. Please note that, as far as I know, there is no cellular service available at this hotel.

The stay here was a good one. You stay here for the location, which was just perfect. The room is basic and the prices a bit elevated. No worries though, it is all about being inside this amazing national park.

Location is the only remarkable positive about this property. Located just a few miles from the Gen. Sherman Tree, this lodge is ideally situated for access to Sequoia's key attractions. However, the pandemic restrictions have taken their toll on what are normally tolerable National Park vending operations.

The rooms are standard, modern, and clean - all you can really ask for in-park accommodations. Wi-Fi was slow but it worked. No A/C. There is no daily maid service, but this is standard now throughout the hotel industry during the pandemic. Note that the rooms are about 100 yards from where you park your car. There are trolley carts available to carry your luggage but you may need to go to your building to retrieve one and bring it to your car.

Important Note: there is no cell phone service at the lodge or anywhere within the park. If you need to make a call, there are pay phones at the stores.

Coffee is available in the lobby each morning. Highly suggest you bring food: each room has a small fridge, but no microwave. The food available at the lodge is expensive and minimal. You must pick up the food from a serving location within the lodge and either eat on the patio or take back to your room. I tried breakfast one day and was disappointed. The "fresh cut" fruit cup appeared to be prepared two days prior and the oatmeal was instant and drowned in too much water making it a soup rather than a porridge. From then on I got all my meals at the Lodgepole market, about 3 miles away. They had prepared sandwiches, salads, and some frozen entrees, but note the lodge does not have microwaves, so heat up at the store before bringing back to your room.

Let's start with the fact that this is the *only* option you have for an enclosed room with an attached bathroom within Sequoia National Park. Everything from Moro Rock to General Sherman to amazing hiking trails are within 15 minutes of the lodge, whereas Three Rivers would be an hour-long drive (not counting the wait in line at the park entrance station) both ways up and and down a super-winding 120-switchbacks and hairpin turns two-lane road. So unless you're planning to be in a campground, if you want to be inside the park itself Wuksachi is your only choice. So 5-stars for location.

Everything else is pretty mediocre, but it's what you put up with for the location. First of all, make sure to request a room facing east in the summer. We were assigned a west-facing room, and the sun greenhoused our room all afternoon. Did I mention that Wuksachi doesn't have air conditioning? Well, actually, I did see that the corner suites had window-mounted a/c units, but most of the room just have little box fans designed to pull in some fresh air. I realize that only summer months really need to worry about heat. At night, the elevated mountain air cools down very fast, and the box fan does bring in the cold fairly quickly, but you're still better off getting an east-side room in the first place. Just hope someone isn't smoking right outside while that fan is busy sucking in air.

The rooms themselves aren't bad. They're a little bigger than John Muir Lodge, and I like the bench in the "mud room" entryway. The bathroom door wouldn't stay open, so we had to prop it with a hiking boot. The shower head is "low-flow" and clogged so pressure was pretty bad. But otherwise everything was fine. The beds are okay, the mini-fridge was cold enough to freeze our gatorade bottles into ice cubes. And overall I'd say the place was cleaner and more updated that Yosemite Lodge.

Parking was okay, in terms of finding a spot. But you do have to hike a ways to get from all the parking lots to the buildings. Bringing your luggage to your room is an uphill 3-minute walk in itself. Even the registration building's parking lot is a football field away from the front door. On the flip side, none of the rooms look out directly over a parking lot, so there's that.

The worst part by far was the food. The Pizza Deck has lousy food, stereotypical National Park prices, and doesn't have the capacity to handle a crowd. At least Grant Grove Restaurant offers a mobile ordering option. I uploaded a photo of the line snaking around the building all the way to the front door at 5:40pm on a Tuesday evening (it opened at 5:30pm). The pizza was so bad my son wouldn't eat it, and he ALWAYS eats pizza.

5-stars for the location, 2-stars for the accommodations, should be 3.5-stars overall, but knock it down to 3-stars for the food. Bottom line: You don't have any other choice if you want a room with an attached bathroom. Request an east-facing room in the summer. Bring your own food. And spend as much time as you can out in the park instead of the room.

Room tip: East side doesn't have the sun pouring in through the open windows. Only corner suites have air-conditioning.
