Wuksachi Lodge is stylish and upscale without being intimidatingly snobbish. The rooms are spacious, and the beds supremely comfortable. Just one word of caution: no elevator. Our room was 335, which means it was on the third floor.

Our visit was greeted by two deer who simply fed off the bushes. They were so tame they let people come within a couple feet and take photos. They were SO tame I had to caution my friend not to feed them berries out of his hand!

Back to the lodge.... The whole area is beautifully encircled by an endless expanse of trees. It's quiet and beautiful. The restaurant was really quite good (I'll review that separately). They smartly keep the menu a touch limited because, if you offer too wide a variety, there would no way to keep the high standards they obviously have. Mainly they offer meat and seafood, but isn't that the type of heart fare you want after a long day of trekking around?

I also appreciated their reasonable prices, especially for dessert. I don't believe anything was more than $7 for dessert. Wine was also a good buy. Just $28 for Estancia Pinot Grigio.

The Lodge has a gift shop next to the large reception desk area. It offered souvenirs I doubt you would find elsewhere.

In short, Wuksachi is a good find at a reasonable price. If it had a swimming pool I'd find it hard to leave.

Room Tip: If you don't want to carry bags upstairs, ask for something on the ground floor!!!

A smart but sympathetically designed hotel with friendly staff and a good cafe/restaurant. The room was good value by national park standards and most of the best bits of Sequoia Park are within easy reach. We enjoyed the stags browsing in the gardens.

We drove the 6,000 foot mountains and experienced fog, rain, sunshine and SNOW in May...so bring your boots and a warm coat. It was unbelievable - we were wearing shorts and flip flops...our bad.Parking and unloading the Wuksachi Lodge proved more than we could stand. I took our car on the service road and pulled a “007-ish maneuver” to get to our room, in the snow. Another gift…they put double bed sheets on our queen beds. Classic! Beware of ever staying in accommodations in National Parks: You are a captive audience and they really don’t care. We had dinner at, where else, the Wuksachi Dining Room. If you don't have a reservation, and even if you do, you'll wait. Take my advice and skip it. The northern Redwoods are so much more amazing and the people are much more friendly.

We stayed at Wuksachi Lodge for two nights in late June. Our room was in the Sequoia Building, which is the first of three lodge buildings across the road from the main lodge. The room was quite comfortable, and I was pleased to discover the the wi-fi worked there. Walking to and from the room, we saw deer, chipmunk, and game birds right near the parking lot. They have luggage carts available for loading and unloading. We had a corner room on the back side of the building.

The restaurant at the lodge was also a suprise. We ate there both evenings and for breakfasts. For breakfast, they have a nice buffet, with two options; the continental option was very reasonable and had enough choices to keep us happy. For dinner, we actually enjoyed the selection of appetizer or small plates on the menu so we did not order main courses. They have a really good chicken quesadilla, also good soups, chicken skewers, a nice mediterranean-style green salad, a hummus platter, and so forth.

Due to the distances and road construction, we did not try to wander farther afield for meals after we had spent a day on the walking trails in the park. But we were happy and very satisfied with the food offered in the Lodge. It was not like the typical state park lodge food we are used to in the east. There was much more variety on the menu and an obvious eye for presentation in the kitchen. We also enjoyed the wine list and there is a bar in the lodge with a friendly bartender.

Although the room was nice, clean, and quite spacious for our family of four, the premium price you are paying is for the ability to stay in Sequoia Park. "Wuksachi Village" is a misnomer - the only thing there is the lodge building with the front desk, gift shop, and expensive restaurant, and if you want to eat dinner there - get a RESERVATION IMMEDIATELY!!!.

When they ask you at check in if you need help with luggage, say YES! There is no quick or easy way to get luggage to your room, even with the carts that you can get in the parking lot - you have to park in the the parking lots, (at check in time, good luck finding a spot in the upper lot too), and schlep your stuff up ramps and sidewalks to the separate lodge buildings, and entrances are on the ends of the buildings. We didn't know where the ramp for our building was and ended up going way out of our way to get there, luckily we are all physically able! If you are not extremely physically able, be sure to ask for help. It is UPHILL! Views from the room were nothing special, rocks and trees.

The housekeeping staff were great - our room's toilet was broken when we arrived and they fixed it right away. The front desk staff were curt and busy, especially as they do not staff the gift shop, so everyone brings their purchases to the front desk to buy. When we checked in we had to wait quite a while for a line of people to buy their gum and souvenirs.

Would we stay there again? Yes, but grudgingly, if we wanted to be in that area of the park with the easy access to the Visitor Center and other park "attractions."
