This is a beautiful place to visit! The inside walking trail is well lit with high ceilings, so it's safe to say that you won't feel "trapped" like you're in a cave! My family from SC LOVED going here with us on a day trip!

The ranger led tour of the King's Palace is not to be missed. Details, stories, information you could never otherwise get, gives you a better appreciation for this wonderful place

Because of the weather, Caverns opened late and closed early. We saw most of what we came for, but disappointed the natural entrance was closed (weather) - so we had to ride elevator both ways instead of walking down and riding up.

It seemed as if I could envision a king and his entourage in the throne room there.

After reading many reviews of the Caverns, we arranged to take the King's Palace tour and were very satisfied. Tours include visits to "rooms" that visitors do not encounter otherwise. The King's Palace tour affords visitors opportunities to get a closer look at formations than one gets touring the Big Room (which is impressive by virtue of its size). The ranger guide for the King's Palace tour provided interesting information: names and method of creation of various formations, history of the caves and amusing stories. There were several opportunities to sit down during the 1 1/2-hour tour as well as opportunities to ask questions.

The King's Palace tour includes a brief blackout (while viisitors are seated). This experience allows visitors to gain an appreciation for what early explorers saw (or didn't see) when they entered the caves armed with nothing more than rudimentary lighting.
