The title says it all - this is quiet, welcoming and very well run small "hostel" where you are feel completely at ease and have the benefit of a local couple available to provide you with all the advise you need to enjoy the area. It is located in a gated community that is a bit out out the way but this adds to the charm, as you do feel you are getting to experience a bit more of the local side of Puerto Rico. The kayak tour and snorkeling trip to Monkey Island (a half day) was excellent and El Yunke itself is a 45 minute drive and worth the better part of a day. We spent three nights and two full days here - and found this about right. On the third day we took a round about drive back to San Juan (not via the major highways, but a four hour trip South, then West then North) to enjoy more of the local scenery. You do need to have your own transport (a rental car) both to get here and to enjoy the area. The two minor irritants are very minor - the beds are doubles and if you are used to larger beds this takes some getting used to, and the fact that you are responsible to keep four different doors/gates locked (including your room) will seem a bit onerous to some. But it is all worth while. Given these minor issues, I would give this a four and one half - as this is not possible I round up and gave it a "five".

Just a quick clarification on this positive review... Two of our three Guesthouse bedrooms feature Queen Size beds. The third features a full size bed with room for a single to be added if needed for a young child. We are a small full feature guesthouse with complete guesthouse facilities including full kitchen, living room, dining room, free wifi, free parking and patio and pool. We also supply concierge services for your pleasure free of charge. The large pool out on the patio offers the travelers beach chairs, boogie boards and towels for pool or beach. We are six houses down from the beach and nestled next to the Humacao Nature reserve.
We hope to welcome you here to Barefoots soon!

This is a very basic guesthouse and a great value. We stayed in the Maroon Room with attached bath. The accommodations were very clean. In addition to the room, guests can use the adjoining kitchen, dining, and living room areas along with the patio and pool. Keisha and Bob were very helpful and friendly and followed through with every request. If you want a pleasant though not fancy guesthouse, away from the hustle and bustle and within walking distance of a nice beach, this is the place to stay!

We returned for our second stay at Barefoot Travelers because we had such a fabulous experience here two years ago. At that time we came for the kayak tour to Monkey Island and thoroughly enjoyed it. We got some great photos of the monkeys and local environs and always felt that our comfort and safety were attended to by our hosts.

We were also delighted to find that the Barefoot Travelers' house is very spacious with good Wifi in the common areas including large kitchen. Our room was lovely and comfortable and we took advantage of the charming pool and gardens to relax. The place is immaculate and clean. We fell in love with our hosts Bob and Keishya who directed us to great restaurants and off-the-beaten-path places that they knew we would enjoy. The beach, about a half block away from the house, is framed by a gorgeous coastline and lies adjacent to a large park-like, tree-studded setting.

On this return trip we spent about four hours hiking in the Humacao Nature Reserve, which is only steps away. It felt like we had truly left civilization behind as we immersed ourselves in a jungle of palms, mangroves, lagoons, and wildlife with the ever-present chirping of the elusive coqui frogs as a backdrop. Our lovely hosts once again steered us to an amazing restaurant set in an picturesque marina.

This is a place where you really feel like you are experiencing a side of Puerto Rico that is not touristy as well as an area of great natural beauty. We highly recommend Barefoot Travelers and hope to return next time we are on the island.

Room Tip: Master Maroon has private en-suite bath. The other two rooms (full and queen) share a bath outside their door.

My husband and I just spent a week at Barefoot Travelers Rooms with our 14 month old son. We stayed in the master suite and loved how roomy it was. Keishya even went out of her way to make comfortable accomadations for our son to sleep on his own little mattress. There's so much to say about our experience since we had a whole week there. One of the most important convenience factors for me was how spacious and usable the kitchen was. My son has terrible food allergies and so we unfortunately couldn't eat out much. Thankfully we were able to eat well with the use of the stovetop and all the pots and pans, etc. The kitchen was extremely clean and nice. I loved using it! The overall feel of our week was so relaxed which is what I was hoping for. I'm normally too go-go-go on vacation, and I wanted a little of that but also wanted to be able to take a step back and enjoy. The location of Barefoot Travelers Rooms is SO IDEAL for that! It's a bit off the beaten path, but still within a half hour or hour at the most to a lot of really great beaches and tourist attractions. We went out several days to see other places. Then the days in between we found ourselves walking the beach (just a block or so away!) for our own private sunrise, hiking the local rainforest trails to an old bunker, laying in the hammock, sitting in chairs by the pool, and even watching redbox movies after our son was in bed. We were able to interact with other guests and really liked that aspect of meeting new people, but at the same time we really liked the setup of the rooms with private locked doors so we could do our own thing when preferred. I cannot say enough good things about Bob and Keishya as hosts and island experts. They know the island so well and have limitless ideas for places to go for whatever type of adventure you may be looking for. They are friendly, fun, and keep a really good balance of business and personal life. They have completely private living quarters upstairs and gave us our space but were always readily accessible in an instant if we needed anything. I could go on and on! The last thing I'd say is that for us personally we really appreciated how active and energetic both Bob and Keishya are. With the kayak tours and hangliding as a side gig you can really tell they have a passion for adventure that we look for as well. We LOVED the kayak tour and snorkelling with Bob, but that's an entire other review to rave about! :) I can't wait until we can visit again!

Room Tip: The master suite was ideal to have our private bathroom attached.

Keishya and Bob were extremely warm and welcoming and made the stay here So much fun. We felt like friends in a home but also had independence and privacy to do our own thing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking at this side of the island.

Every morning there was coffee and a plan had been hashed the night prior as Keishya and Bob are excellent hosts that want to help you make the most of your stay no matter what you're looking to do. Relax or adventure, they're there to help!

They also had great suggestions of things to do in the area, places to eat, trails to explore.
