“The perfect country hideaway”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We have stayed at Okel tor mine many times. It's the kind of place that draws you back again and again. We always stay in the Count House which is a one bedroom cottage that is perfect for two people and a couple of dogs. It's very well presented and is equipped with everything you need to make your stay special any time of year. It's warm and snug in the winter and in spring and summer you can eat out on the deck while watching the river roll by. There are two cottages on site but the count house deck gives privacy from the other cottage. Nick the proprietor lives on site. He is a great host, helpful and funny. He is there if needed but other than that he seems to just blend in to the background. There are fantastic places to walk in every direction as well as interesting places to visit. In addition, there are two pubs within walking distance for the days you don't want to cook. I would highly recommend Okel tor but be careful...it's addictive!

“Perfect. Don't think twice.”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

If you are looking for a trip away from the day to day grind, away from the world. Then don't think twice. The location is quiet but in distance of Calstock, with all it's local amenities. The house itself is sensational and kept to a very high standard. One of the most unique houses/locations I've ever seen. Will look to be back as soon as possible.

“Amazingly relaxing and beautiful.”
Reviewed 18 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

My Partner and I stayed at The Count House and it was stunning. The owner, Nick was welcoming and the cottage was a dream. Never felt so relaxed! We will be rebooking for later in the year. We also ventured down to the Boot Inn where we had a very friendly evening with wine by the log fire with the owners of the pub. A beautiful village and stunning views. Without realising, the village is filled with some arty types :)

“amazingly lovely, chilled and beautiful!”

Despite being a little hard to find, it is the most beautiful place. Views from the cottage are something else and the village very arty and ever so friendly. Owners lovely and the cottage was stunning! Will be revisiting asap!

“Pure Nourishment For The Soul”
Reviewed 7 February 2014 for a stay in January 2014

This was our second visit to this national treasure and we were as entranced and spellbound as our visit last year. We stayed in The Count House.

As soon as you open the door on this unremarkable looking little stone building tucked away in the woods just off a public bridleway, you are transported into a most wonderful space. It is simple, clean, well appointed, has a location and view to die for and is cosy, very cosy!

January 2014 was the wettest January on record. Okel Tor Mine had its fair share of the wet stuff and was sodden. It didn't matter a bit. On arrival, we lit the fire in the woodburner, put the kettle on and had tea and crumpets in front of the fire.

Okel Tor Mine is a World Heritage Site, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. However, it is so much more than all its accolades.

Close your eyes for a moment and you could be transported back over a century to a bustling office where ores are being assayed and miners are being paid but, all that has gone, what left is this peace and tranquility. It is quite simply intoxicating and as the title alludes, pure nourishment for the soul.

But don't take our word for it, try it yourself (just not in January! Its not the weather but, our Anniversary ... and its going to be booked up!)

No trip to Okel Tor is complete without a visit to meet the proprietors Shaun & Kim, at The Boot Inn in Calstock, where you can be assured of a warm welcome.

Finally, our warmest thanks to both Greg & Nick our hosts. Thank you for your superb care and attention and for sharing this magical space with us!
