Not that it’s a bad thing. The restaurant is more open plan, with fewer booths. The staffing has also changed. The level of English spoken is pretty good. The same time limited (100minutes) serving of food, a mixture of meats and vegetables & extra for drinks (400¥ for soft drinks/tea/coffee). Really is an experience worth enjoying. Certainly works your chopsticks skills.

There's place served shabu-shabu and sukiyaki all you can eat but they didn't include drinks in it. Sometimes there has to wait for long time so Book before go better way.

I had fond memories of this place when we ate here 15 years ago. It was our first shabu shabu experience and we were happy with it.
Fast forward to 15 years later. I made a reservation for dinner and requested a booth, which was confirmed via email. We get to the restaurant, the greeter finds our reservation and changes it from a booth to a table on the screen right in front of me. He leads us to a table. I reminded him that I reserved a booth. We got seated in a booth. The waiter we had was Japanese and spoke very little English. No problem though, we are in Japan. I don't know if it was the language barrier but we hardly saw our waiter. We had to flag down other waiters to assist us. And there were at least two waiters there that spoke English. We know this as we heard them assisting other diners. Those waiters were very friendly and got us what we needed.
Now onto the beef itself. We ordered the Japanese beef, which is their most expensive set. The beef had too much fat. I'm not talking about marbeling, I'm talking about fat. The meat could've been trimmed much better in my opinion. After my second round of beef, I had to rip the fat off of the outside of the slices. It was just too much. The vegetable selection was decent though.
All in all, the service from the waiters was good (not our original waiter though). The restaurant was good looking and they had a smoking room to accommodate their customers that smoked. I doubt I would return though as the beef was disappointing.

This place is reasonably priced, but known to locals to be a place to avoid. There are other better (price and meat quality) shabu shabu places around Shinjuku/Kabukicho. This was actually my third choice as the other restaurants were full for the night. Meat will keep coming as long as you flag the servers down, they very rarely approached asking if we wanted more. The cheap meat (standard course) is so-so, it's fun to eat and will do the job. However, we did the Japanese meat plan, and it was way better. Night and day, but you pay for it.

My low rating doesn't necessarily come from the food, that would get a 3.5 out of 5 stars for me. The low rating comes from blatent racism, segregation, and poor service. I was with one Japanese individual and one other American. I had made the reservation under a Japanese name, via their Japanese website. They had no reason to believe that I was a foreigner until I walked in the door. I did this because I wanted a private booth table and not a table on the open floor. According to their website (google Momo paradise Kabukicho honten, easy to find their site), section one on their floor plan is for "Foreign guests", and no this is not a translation problem...the Japanese confirms it.

When I showed up with my reservation number, i gave it to the guy and he said I didn't have a reservation. I said, yes I did and he asked for the name...told him the Japanese name and he realized I was originally scheduled in a private booth. This is when I saw him change my table from the booth to the open floor. He did this on the computer screen in front of me. When I was seated in the foreign customer section, I realized everyone else in the area was foreigners. All Japanese were in the private booths. Confirmed segregation.

What about service? I never had anyone ask me if I wanted more meat, we kept having the flag down servers to get more. The salad guy was a little annoyed that we forgot to put our button from green to red and he said in rather rude Japanese, "You should change it to red". I am not sure if this service is the same over with the Japanese customers, but I doubt it.

I will stick to the other places around the area. Won't be going back until the segregation policy is lifted and I encourage you to do the same
