The Ritz Carlton Kyoto was simply the best hotel we have ever stayed in. It is a beauty to behold - the architecture, the lighting, the decoration are all outstanding. The service was faultless, the food was delicious. The rooms were so well thought out with comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, mesmerising river views - it was tempting to just stay indoors. Anthony was solicitious to all the guests as the typhoon approached and we felt very well looked after. We were very sorry to leave but are planning to return. .

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your review and of course your wonderful comments we are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us here in Kyoto.

The hotel Indeed the location is very central here in Kyoto and only a stone’s throw away from all the entertainment of the Gion ( downtown Kyoto ).
The rooms themselves are quite spacious with a mix of Western and Japanese decor which makes your stay a real Kyoto experience.
Of course all of the above would be nothing without the touch of our Ladies & Gentlemen dedicated to servicing you in a way which only The Ritz Carlton can do.

We thank you again for your comments and most of all feedback in which is so important to us here, we hope to see you back one day again and until then from all of us here at The Ritz Carlton Kyoto wishing you all the best and of course safe travels.

Yours Sincerely

We had a standard room which was lovely - really well designed with lots of lovely touches. We were on the top floor of the back building so we had a bit of a view of the mountains over the roof of the rest of the hotel - would have been disappointed to be on a lower floor. Make sure you specify a room on the river side of the hotel to ensure a view.

The hotel is brand new and we sensed just a few teething troubles. Though the staff were friendly, and helpful of course, not everyone spoke perfect English (notably the concierge). Service at breakfast and afternoon tea in the lounge got a bit dicey when it was busy. The breakfast buffet was awkwardly arranged and the selection not quite as good as other hotels of the same level. Housekeeping seemed always to want to clean our room at the precise times we were in there (i.e. just after breakfast and just before dinner) which is not something I've noticed at other hotels. And though the guest rooms are lovely we felt the common areas lacked something. We arrived at lunch time and wanted something quick and light but none of the restaurants seemed set up for that - it's a fancy meal or nothing (this is hardly a problem unique to them though).

But that's all nit picking, it's a really great hotel, the best in Kyoto from what I gather, and we had a lovely stay. The best towels of any hotel I've ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Get a room on the river.

The Ritz is a truly wonderful hotel. It is located on the river near the centre of town.
It is a 5 minute walk to the eating/entertainment areas and a further 5 minutes to the main shopping districts. We caught the Shinkansen to Kyoto and it was a 15 minute cab ride from the station to the hotel.
The hotel is also near the subway but is also so close to many of the best sights that you can literally walk or catch a cab if you don't feel like catching trains and the trip is cheap.
The hotel rooms are superb. Modern and spacious, we had a room overlooking the river with large windows and views to the river and mountains. Rooms are quiet, we did not hear a noise at night during our four day stay
The staff are without doubt the friendliest most helpful staff of any hotel I have been to around the world, no they don't all speak English but hey I am in Japan....from Valter who greets you to Anthony and Tamara who guide you around the hotel or give advice on the city and the staff in the restaurants or reception without exception the nicest group of hotel staff you'll meet.
The hotel has a delicious breakfast, Western or Japanese as well as a great lounge for snacks. It also has two first class restaurants and if you get the chance have a Tepinyaki private dining experience, you won't forget it (thanks Takeo)
Close to the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Choose a room that faces the river

A truly Ritz-Carlton Experience, cant ask for a better stay
Great location, short walk to the subway and 20 minutes discovery walk to Gion

One of the best beds to sleep on, if not the best as long as I can recall

Room Tip: Have one facing the river..

We had dinner at the Hotel's restaurant and had the chance to visit the hotel.
It is absolutely stunning from the inside and out.
The entrance is beautifully decorated with a big and lush Bonsai tree.
The staff are impeccably well spoken and friendly and go above and beyond their duties to help and direct you as well as showcasing the marvelous interior design and hotel amenities.
One piece of advise, book months in advance, as otherwise you will not find a room. We tried to book 2 months ahead and it was fully booked. Truth be told, this is the only true luxury hotel in town (surprisingly enough).
The restaurants, Locanda and Mizuki are impeccable in both service and food.
