We spent 4 nights headquartered here as part of a tour and were thankful we had this hotel to come back to each night. Traveling using tours can be a tiring and stressful exercise with the non-stop activities. This hotel proved to be the perfect antidote to unwind each night.
The staff are top drawer and very helpful, courteous and kind. The rooms are well appointed, the beds very comfortable and bathroom very modern and clean. Perfect.
We only at breakfasts in the hotel but they were the best we have encountered anywhere, not because of the large selection, or the variety but the quality of the food, the presentation and the service. Try Chef's omelettes - he turns them into a masterpiece
The hotel is located in the centre of Kyoto so good for business but we found the covered street mall nearby a wonderful place to stroll and get food, gifts and the like. The Tea Museum offers hundreds of tea varieties for example.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants creature comforts, relaxation and staff who are most accommodating

Of the top-class hotels in Kyoto, the Okura is one of the best situated. Kyoto is a vast city so a lot of the sights are not within walking distance. However, with good walking shoes, some of the best known temples can be reached on foot. The hotel lobby is rather dreary and smacks of days of past glory. We checked into a corner twin which was tired-looking and was badly laid out - a lot of wasted space. We decided to upgrade to a Deluxe room with a view over the distant hills. This room was a lot better: large with excellent beds and a well appointed bathroom. Humidifiers countered the dry air and for those (like me) who don't like down duvets, they also have blankets! Staff are courteous, helpful and smiling - like all good Japanese hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking the river. Avoid the corner rooms.

Fantastic Japanese service. Great location for transport, restaurants and shops. Large bedroom and entry to room that has internal door so you can shut out light from corridor. Comfortable bed and duvet. Large bathroom with bath and separate shower and very deluxe toilet! Had a great Japanese buffet on 17th floor and also Breakfast buffet with huge selection of dishes to please everyone. Excellent two night stay here. Opulent, well run hotel.

One of Kyoto's oldest hotels but you would not know looking at it. The lobby is outstanding!!! Stayed on the 10th floor with a view to the north.... Large view room, beautiful bathroom with great amenities. Good location to the shopping and food area of Shin-kyogoku.

Room Tip: The river view rooms would be nicer.
