I've stayed at the Almont twice now! Once in 2015 and the most recent a few weeks ago. It's a nice hotel near Kyoto Station, maybe a 5-10 minute walk. My room this trip was a small double room, which is a bit small but doable for a couple. Bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the ammenties in the room: tea and toiletries ( Mikimoto). There's not much space to open large luggage though in this type of room. We were given a coupon for breakfast upon check in for the following morning and we weren't too impressed. Definitely wouldn't pay extra for the small selection that doesn't seem to get replenished throughout the breakfast window, so if you go, go early. The public bath is very nice and one of the main reasons I came back to this hotel! It's very relaxing to go soak in after exploring Kyoto all day! Overall, if you're looking for a place close to Kyoto Station for easy transportation with the trains and buses this is a great place to stay!

The hotel is literally no more than 5 minutes walk from the rail station. So it is really central. Despite this it is very quiet and there was no noise from the streets below.
We didn't dine in the hotel, as we preferred going outside and tasting the real Japan. There is a Tully's café just round the corner at the bottom of a shopping mall. This is like a Costas or Starbucks and really handy for breakfast.
We found all the rooms in Japanese hotels to be very small. If you are spending all day out sightseeing as we were, this won't bother you too much. If you are going to use your room for more than sleeping in, best making sure you pay the extra for the bigger rooms.
The staff were excellent, but clearly their English only extended to hotel issues. Asking for advice on trains or what to visit could be a bit more tricky, but they will try for you.
Kyoto is beautiful. Ensure you visit the Gion district. That is on the other side of the train station, which is a huge man-made barrier to the North side of the city. There must be a way through it but we couldn't find it. We had to hire a taxi to get from what was one side of the station to the hotel on the other. Be warned.

Room Tip: Size matters, make sure you know what you are getting.

Our stay in this hotel was very enjoyable. We were treated with courtesy at all times and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The room was small but had everything we needed for our stay. It was a short distance from the rail station and bus station but was surprisingly peaceful at night. The Onsen was good with good facilities eg. a washer, drier.

We had a one night trip in Kyoto and decided to stay in a hotel close by the station. The room is a bit small but good for the price. Convinient also since all taxi driver know the location right away. They have a public bath house, which is unique and open until pretty late at night.

This is a really good hotel for the price. The rooms are spacious for Japan. Breakfast was included for us and it was really good on both western and Japanese breakfast. The hotel is in a great location for accessing Kyoto station and sightseeing. It is not really walking distance to the gion. We caught the bus or a taxi - both were easy. There are good restaurants around, especially in the station building. The onsen is free and very nice. The staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
