Fabulous food and a quiet country atmosphere

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Jan 2019
We spent five nights at The Habitation du Comte and found it immensely relaxing: a fine old Art Deco house on the site of a former sugar plantation, with ruins nearby (but not visitable). A shady garden with mature trees, where the heron hunts, hens pecking about marshalled by an attentive cockerel, and a little channel where fish compete for crumbs in the most charming way. Our room faced north (ideal for us: always shady) and we looked out onto breadfruit trees, vines and an enormous cactus as well as the usual palms etc. We loved it here and the laissez-faire feeling of the place. The pool was inviting. But best of all was the food. Absolutely wonderful, five-star Masterchef stuff, the best food I have ever had in a long and greedy life. The place was easy to find, well signposted from the main road, and between our scraps of French and the staff's soupcons of English there were no communication problems. Go there and eat your heart out!

Room Tip: Room 4 is always shady, and looks out onto the garden. The bathroom and toilet are accessed via...

Recently returned from a lovely eight day stay at Habitation du Comte. We loved that the property is away from the hustle and bustle of the island, as we came down to relax. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, including fridges and ACs. Lovely breakfast served every morning (included) with fresh pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee. As most reviewers have noted, the restaurant is one of the best on the island, and we ate there four different times, ordering different dishes every time. Lovely pool for relaxing while the local rooster walks by. Overall, couldn't recommend this property any more highly - the small staff made us feel like we were home. Well positioned for visiting the top beaches on the Western side of the island, plus the botanical gardens and zoo.

This hotel has a very "close-to-home" feel to it. The rooms are spacious with great interior decoration and attention to detail. The service is good, the food as well. This place is perfect for people who want to stay in a calm place with not too many guests.

Charming Boutique hotel, close to the beach. Highly recommended. Good for families And couples. Great restaurant on the site. Near Sainte Rose and 10 minutes drive from Deshaie. We stayed in February for 2 nights, we had a family room , two rooms and huge bathroom victorian style.

If you like out of the way special places to stay this is a good one. It has character and was rather like having our own villa. It is air conditioned and the beds are very comfortable and the pool is lovely. Their main asset is their wonderful wines and gourmet food open for lunch and dinner and not having to travel to and from a restaurant. We are in our early 60’s so if you want night life it is not here. They do not serve food on Tuesday and Wednesdays. Calm peaceful place with a pretty well kept garden. Natalie and Magalee are charming and professional. We loved it.

Just had a 3 night stay and this great little hotel. If you're looking for a stay that is welcoming, friendly and quiet, with a little seclusion thrown in, then look no further.
From the minute I arrived until the minute I left, I couldn't fault this hotel. Rooms are clean, tidy and with a little colonial charm thrown in for good measure, staff are friendly and efficient, food from the kitchen is excellent (well done Chef) and the hostess is charming. N2 is, unbelievably, just two minutes away and perfect for exploring the coast line and interior of Basse-Terre island. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay and, if given the opportunity, will stay again.

Room tip: I had a basic room on the ground floor terrace which was just fine
