Enjoyable Country B&B in Guadeloupe

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Oct 2016
We spent about five days here during a visit to Guadeloupe. It is well-located and is close to many nice beaches, attractions, and a couple good nature/hiking areas. The habitation itself is good, on lovely grounds with a nice pool. As some reviewers have noted, the restaurant is only open some nights for dinner and there are really not any places to eat within walking distance. But we liked it and would stay there again if in the area.
Date of stay: May 2016
Room Tip: The habitation is secluded so there is relatively little difference among the rooms in terms of...

Stayed for 3 nights in the 2 bedroom bungalows at the rear of the hotel. There was a kitchenette, seating area and plunge pool perfect for 2 couples sharing, this meant we could have breakfast at our convenient and bring food back.

Restaurant was closed when we arrived and place appeared empty but hotel manager was very accommodating and made us a plate of cold food with beer, wine and water.

Great location for exploring - out of the town and car or local taxi essential. Set on a sugar plant it was interesting history.

        Deshaies only approx. 20mins away.

Defiantly recommend and would stay again,

We stayed at L'Habitation our last three nights in Guadeloupe. It's located a few miles west of Sainte-Anne and a short drive to several local beaches and the town of Deshaies. It's a little tricky to find, but once you do, you're in for a treat. L'Habitation is a beautiful facility with gorgeous outdoor spaces. The room was very large by European standards, well equipped, with a very comfortable bed, and intriguing decor. Our room overlooked the swimming pool and the gardens. There is also a fabulous restaurant at the hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed our last night in Guadeloupe. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. One nice touch was that on the morning of our departure, we were leaving very early ( before 6:00 AM). Although they are not open at that time the manager/cook prepared a breakfast for us to get us on our way. I would enthusiastically return to l'Habitation on a return trip to Guadeloupe.

Two night here on a quick visit to Guadeloupe, Arrived late due to flight delay, dining room was not open but the manager made us a very nice salad. Next day we were told the ding room was not open that night either, blow. We improvised with pizza off a local van. This is a nice hotel in expansive gardens, but a little off the beaten track. the room is comfortable enough, good ensuite, and balcony overlooking the pool etc. The breakfast was excellent with lots of local input.
We were looking forward to eating there, it is supposed to be good, pity

We had a fantastic time at Habitation du Comte. This well kept property provided a peaceful home base for our 4 night stay. Breakfast was fantastic, the staff were friendly (recommended a great beach a bit off the beaten path) and everything was clean and comfortable. It's set back from the main road so very quiet, but in close proximity to Deshaies.

We chose Habitation du Comte (HdC) due to its proximity to one of the top rated beaches in Guadeloupe (i.e.: The Grand Anse in Deshaies) and HdC’s mid-range price. HdC is a Bed & Breakfast/Restaurant that in another era was the main house for a sugar Plantation and a working farm. HdC boasts about 12 rooms. We chose a 2-bedroom villa (in the rear), which has an outdoor seating area, Jacuzzi (not heated) including a complete kitchen with an automatic dishwasher.
The grounds of the HdC are well maintained and landscaped. The rooms could use some needed updating. Our villa rooms were adequate but somewhat cramped and lacked closet space. One of the wooden portable closet’s drawers was stuck due to humidity. All rooms had A/C. A Flat screen TV in one room was woefully small and none of the cable channels had an English speaking station (i.e.: CNN).
On the date we arrived, our inbound flight was delayed and we arrived late in the evening yet, the HdC prepared for us a very nice light meal to hold us over to breakfast. Of all the restaurants we tried in Guadeloupe, the restaurant at HdC (a French Restaurant) with Chef Anthony at the helm served the best meals. At our request, Chef Anthony made us grilled Lobster and prepared of the best Crème Brule we ever tasted. He also made all the baguettes, croissant and pastries.
We rented a vehicle (very necessary) at the airport and drove the 20 miles to HdC, which is on the outskirts of St. Rose (i.e.: Comte Loheac) in the direction of Deshaies. The vehicle permitted us to get around the whole country, visit the most popular beaches and shop at the Destrellan Mall in Baie Mauhault.
We spoke some basic French but the Hotel’s staff (Sabine and Baylor) had no problem understanding or communicating to us in English.
We recommend HdC as a ‘jumping off point’ for families/individuals exploring all of Guadeloupe and will be gone most of the day. This is especially so if you are willing to prepare some of your own meals or will be on your own ‘work/play schedule’. HdC had complimentary breakfasts. And gave us breakfast items on the 2 days the kitchen was closed. A large grocery store is located Carrefor is in St. Rose and a “U” Supermarket in nearby Plessis-Nogent.
