A Rose near Sainte Rose

We chose Habitation du Comte (HdC) due to its proximity to one of the top rated beaches in Guadeloupe (i.e.: The Grand Anse in Deshaies) and HdC’s mid-range price. HdC is a Bed & Breakfast/Restaurant that in another era was the main house for a sugar Plantation and a working farm. HdC boasts about 12 rooms. We chose a 2-bedroom villa (in the rear), which has an outdoor seating area, Jacuzzi (not heated) including a complete kitchen with an automatic dishwasher.
The grounds of the HdC are well maintained and landscaped. The rooms could use some needed updating. Our villa rooms were adequate but somewhat cramped and lacked closet space. One of the wooden portable closet’s drawers was stuck due to humidity. All rooms had A/C. A Flat screen TV in one room was woefully small and none of the cable channels had an English speaking station (i.e.: CNN).
On the date we arrived, our inbound flight was delayed and we arrived late in the evening yet, the HdC prepared for us a very nice light meal to hold us over to breakfast. Of all the restaurants we tried in Guadeloupe, the restaurant at HdC (a French Restaurant) with Chef Anthony at the helm served the best meals. At our request, Chef Anthony made us grilled Lobster and prepared of the best Crème Brule we ever tasted. He also made all the baguettes, croissant and pastries.
We rented a vehicle (very necessary) at the airport and drove the 20 miles to HdC, which is on the outskirts of St. Rose (i.e.: Comte Loheac) in the direction of Deshaies. The vehicle permitted us to get around the whole country, visit the most popular beaches and shop at the Destrellan Mall in Baie Mauhault.
We spoke some basic French but the Hotel’s staff (Sabine and Baylor) had no problem understanding or communicating to us in English.
We recommend HdC as a ‘jumping off point’ for families/individuals exploring all of Guadeloupe and will be gone most of the day. This is especially so if you are willing to prepare some of your own meals or will be on your own ‘work/play schedule’. HdC had complimentary breakfasts. And gave us breakfast items on the 2 days the kitchen was closed. A large grocery store is located Carrefor is in St. Rose and a “U” Supermarket in nearby Plessis-Nogent.

The hotel is well equipped with nice luxury furniture, a big bed room, excellent bathroom and a balcony. People are very friendly and speak a little English. On X-mas eve, we had a lovely meal in their restaurant. The food was of a high quality and the ambiance was very warm. The restaurant was nicely decorated for x-mas and there was also a live band playing. All rooms are on the first floor. Breakfast is typical French, just a few buns with jam and of course fresh fruit. The hotel is rather difficult to find but the view is perfect (lying on top of a hill). We stayed for 3 nights.

Room tip: View is very nice, furniture is very luxuries.

We returned to Habitation du Comte again this year after our excellent stay here last year. Our second stay was just as fantastic as the first stay in every way. We had dinner twice again at the hotel and the food was absolutely tremendous. The staff at the hotel are always very friendly and welcoming. This could be our favorite hotel to stay at when we travel, it is just so relaxing and perfect in every way. We hope to return again next year!

Absolutely everything was good there. A bit off the road, and hence secluded small hotel /B&B. Easy to find, too. Short driving distance to Sainte-Rose, and Deshaies. The restaurant was very good, too.

We stayed for four nights at the end of December and loved every aspect of our stay. The hotel is in a very quiet, peaceful location and just a short drive from the Grand Anse beach and the restaurants of Deshaies. Breakfast every day was quite good (fresh pastries, yogurt, etc.) and was included in the rate. We had dinner at Habitation du Comte twice and both meals were excellent and very reasonably priced. The rooms were large and comfortable, ours even had a nice balcony with a view toward the mountains. We'd definitely love to return and would recommend this property without hesitation.

Room tip: Ask for Room 5, it was a nice large room with a balcony.

We arrived late from the airport on the 2nd of January, and we found the chef and 2 staffmembers for us. We had a long trip so only decided for a one course meal, where the chef suggestion for a salad included various bites and tasts of what his full menu had to offer, this for a very moderate price ...with a chilled botle of Sancerre, and some fresh baked bread, we did not aks fro more !

The rooms are large and 'vintage' style furnished. There is airco and most rooms have a large balcony. Our room had a large bathroom and a seperate toilet. As there are only a few rooms the hotel is quiet at night and you can make an early start all alone in a large swimmingpool under the carraiban sun..

The 3 course meal served on our second evening was the perefect blend between old style French Cuisine and Carribian influences...even if you are not staying in this - not that cheap- hotel, the restaurant is a not-to-be-missed experience for anyone visiting Basse-Terre!
