“Great holiday rental for family & friends to spend a week chilling.”

A very spacious homely property that accommodates a large group of people. with plenty of bathrooms . A warm welcome from the owner on arrival was appreciated. There were enough seats for everyone to sit around & watch TV, eat at the dining table or to eat al fresco with stunning views.
The property is remote so a car is essential. However, for those of us who enjoy walking, the mile to the nearest pub was fine. Colyford has a village shop & 2 good pubs. Colyton has a few more shops to offer. A great location to visit Lyme Regis, Sidmouth or to take a tram to Seaton. Once we had stocked up on provisions at the supermarket in Seaton, we ate in 5 out of 7 evenings. The main reason I haven't given the property 5 stars is cooking on a standard oven, even with a microwave, proved difficult to cater for 10 people, ideally needs a range. Regardless we all had a very good holiday.

We arrived last Friday to this beautiful cottage rental, a lovely warm welcome from the owner.....and it was just as we had hoped, spacious lounge/dining area with a great sized kitchen ( which I have to say was really well equipped, even down to a brand new dishwasher & washer/dryer ) 4 out of the five bedrooms had their own bathrooms and the one that didn't was situated right next to the family bathroom, they were all spotlessly clean with plenty of clean white towels. The beds all really comfortable, and there is plenty of extra pillows should you need them, there is also a cot in the main double bedroom.

We were staying with our relatives from Kent and the fact that it was open plan meant we could all be together at the same time, and even those in the kitchen could still be in on all the action!

The log burner in the lounge was a fantastic feature and was a welcome sight after a wintry walk on the beach (Bags of logs can be purchased from the owner at £3.00 per large bag).
The Granary is in a stunning location situated close (around 10 minutes drive) to numerous coastal towns, but a lovely walk is right on your doorstep. The patio area over looks fantastic countryside views .. and of course lets not forget 'Nobby' the ostrich :) ... although if you dear hear the occasional Groan in the middle of the night ... its not a resident ghost ... its Nobby!
We had an excellent meal at the Wheelwright Inn in Colyford ,which in nicer weather could be walked to.
We had a brilliant stay!! .... and we shall be returning again .... Thank you to you all at 'The Granary' :)

Management Response

So sorry she was unlucky with her stay. Mechanical breakdowns happen at any time, so the fridge and WiFi router went at the same time. We attended to her needs whenever they arose.

A new fridge was delivered to them on day 2, but they did not want it fully fitted, even though it would have taken 30-45 mins. Their observation about the seal on the fridge was unfounded as it had run out of gas and was 14 years old. The WiFi router went down days before Xmas, so a replacement was not obtainable, but they could pick up a weak signal from a bedroom.

We have had 14 Xmas stays over the years and no one has complained about the Kitchen setup or equipment.

The TV has been in the same place for 14 years, and no one has complained or commented. It is perfectly viewable from most angles of the room.

The carpets are cleaned once or twice a year, and next week (4th Feb) they are having a seeing to.

A dog fouling is sad, she only needed to tell us and we would have removed it. Our 13 year old dog is disabled with 3 legs and sometimes has accidents (rarely) when he fails on his only hind leg.

Glad to hear the party actually DID enjoy their stay as mentioned in the last paragraph despite the apparent dilemma they encountered

The party who had the following week painted a VERY different story (see write up) and had a WHALE of a time !! - BRAVO !!
