Description: In the picture perfect village of Churchill, The Chequers is everything a traditional pub should be with its pretty Cotswold stone exterior and a muddy landrover outside. Except, step inside this pub and you'll find something much more intriguing. A heady mix of the old and new. Expect modern cocktails to sit alongside local ales, and a menu that is packed with seasonally inspired dishes.Enjoy locally brewed beer propped at our bar with friends and family, or rustic dishes in our restaurant using the very best British ingredients in some well-loved classics like our Twice Baked Cheddar Soufflé, Bobby Battered Market Fish and our unmissable steaks cooked to perfection in Josper ovens.

6 of us had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Chequers. We had the lamb shoulder special....it was special, slow cooked 10-12 hours and it was soft and succulent. The veg. were piping hot, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, cabbage, peas and mange tout. As much gravy as we wanted and delicious mint sauce. It was perfect. The staff were obliging. Apple crumble and ice cream for dessert was to die for! The best Sunday lunch I have had!

We had a great lunch at the Chequers. We were passing by and dropped in. They managed to fit us in although the restaurant was humming. Solid wood tables, cosy atmosphere, prompt service and great food - even the coffee was delicious. Also a lovely cheese souffle. Thank you for all.

Had a few meals recently and all have been good. Food fresh and freshly cooked! Well balanced menu, good to see some kidneys on a menu. Only downside was Jeremy Clarkson in the bar, but to be fair he didn't bother us.

Booked by telephone a couple of days in advance and asked whether they catered for vegans. The person who took the call said she'd speak to the chef. A couple of minutes later she confirmed they could offer a vegan roast. I was happy with that and looking forward to the meal, especially as it's an expensive venue. I expected a nut roast or a mushroom dish but in fact was served.....nothing. A plate of vegetables without the meat, gravy and Yorkshire pudding my fellow diners enjoyed. I don't know how much it was as we split the bill but it was eye wateringly expensive. Not at all happy and won't be returning. A simple 'No, sorry' would have been more honest.

Based on a fantastic experience from a couple of years ago we took some friends here last night and sadly I thought the whole evening was very disappointing.
There was an accumulation of small things that were poor and it would be petty to go into every single one of them.
To me, based on 40 years of experience in the industry, what was missing was management. There was no obvious presence and there was little direction and support.
It seemed to be that the whole place was being run by students who were doing their best but lacked knowledge and experience.
It is a shame but Based on this visit we won't be back
