They don't lie when they say Wilderness! This lodge is quite isolated, around a 20 minute drive from the town of Ivalo and surrounded by pristine forest this place is very special. There is no TV or wifi in the rooms so bring a good book! The rooms are very cosy with thick wooden logs for walls and great views into the forest (didn't see any wildlife though!). The sauna can be booked privately which is very nice. Stunning views, great for walks and perfect for those looking to get into nature and away from city life. Loved it and will come back

We stayed in one of the Superior rooms which was warm and well equipped. There are now some lodges with hot tubs and big scenic views which would be very tempting - budget permitting! The guides at the resort are excellent and we went snow shoeing, snow mobiling ( Day trip and then hunting for Northern Lights at night ) and husky sledding. All were excellent. A first class trip. Adults only resort.

We stayed at Nangu for 4 nights at the end of January (a package trip arranged through Discover the World). From the moment we arrived the staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. We stayed in a Panoramic Log Cabin which overlooked the frozen lake - it was immaculately clean and comfy. We were kitted out with our snow-suits and boots which were clean and fitted well. Our excursions were Snow Shoeing (excellent fun and our guide Lenna was infectious with her love for the outdoors), evening Aurora Camp, Snowmobiling and Husky Dogs. All were brilliant both in terms of the activity itself, and our guides who were all funny, friendly and looked after us perfectly. Breakfast and dinner were in the main hall which is a beautiful setting. All the food was simply lovely, and the staff so friendly. I can recommend trying the Glogi...! We were also lucky enough to see the Northern Lights, a real bonus. I cannot fault this hotel at all, and would completely recommend it to anyone. Thank you to everyone at Nangu for a most enjoyable and memorable stay.

My husband and I spent four days at Nangu and had an amazing time. It is a beautiful place with friendly, helpful staff. The food was lovely, not a lot of choice but what we had was delicious. The hotel is on the edge of a frozen lake and we saw a wonderful display of Northern Lights. I upgraded our room to the Panoramic log cabin which had a hot tub on the balcony and it's own sauna. It was well worth the money. I would thoroughly recommend this area to see the Northern Lights, it was our second visit and we saw them most nights on both trips. Even if you are not able to see the Lights it is a very good activity holiday if you like snowmobiling, snow shoeing, huskies etc.

The excursions were all excellent - the equipment is clean and new, the guides friendly and knowledgeable. One comes back from each excursion with a great sense of achievement - having had a real workout, a real adrenaline rush and something magical to remember (such as seeing reindeer on a frozen lake). We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights on our penultimate evening (kudos to our guide who not only found the aurora but then gave us excellent advice on optimizing our camera settings) but, had we not, we would still have cherished the memory of our time at Nangu. They had a visit from a cheerful lapland Santa on Christmas Eve who distributed high-quality traditional local gifts.

Bear in mind, this is a wilderness (small “w”) experience. The food is local, fresh and good but it is merely the fuel for your adventures. If you’re a reasonably robust omnivore you’ve nothing to worry about. If you want the latest fads indulged and you’re going to have a melt-down because you didn’t get the window table at dinner (it’s pitch-black outside!) then Nangu isn’t for you. The staff are accessible and charming - the shuttle van driver (Aaro) was an absolute star. At no stage did anyone try to charge us for anything unexpected.

One quibble - Nangu was sold to us as adults-only. In fact, there were young children at most meals (nothing like as many as at Nellim) and one in the unit next to us. Not what we thought we were signing up for. But for that... 5+ stars.
