Arriving in this fishermenlodge was a real experience. The welcome was so warm, thank you Ann. It felt like a family reunion and the manager and his wife Michael and Heather were the perfect hosts. Dinner was served in familystyle, all sitting on 1 table! Although the food was not the best we ate in Ireland was this an unforgettable experience. Just book it!

Delphi Lodge is set in a truly beautiful location, surrounded by both mountains and a lake. It is an old country house which has been sensitively done up (but could do with a little refresher - re-springing of sofas and re-upholstering of all sitting room/library sofas & chairs!). It is however charming ... Internet access is difficult to receive and there is no Television, but you would hardly notice their absence. It is a place primarily for fantastic salmon fishing, walking and talking over dinner to other guests in true country house style. The food was excellent and they do try to cater for individual requests, mine was 'no butter on vegetables'. The Irish love their butter so it that was a bit hit and miss for me, but the rest of dinner along with their very substantial breakfasts, was outstanding. Carol, Anne and Michael were very welcoming and attentive. I would thoroughly recommend Delphi Lodge for a relaxing time away from the rest of the world!

Room Tip: Choose room no.10!

I stayed here in late April and can not overstate the magnificence of the experience. The welcome was just like arriving home to a family who are delghted to see you. The informality and measured attentiveness of the staff is an artform in itself. The rooms were just beyond magnificent true to their Victorian Origins but the views, never has rain and wild wind looked so appealing!
Breakfast was an utter joy, the food was simply superb. The atmosphere at breakfast is wonderful, one is welcomed into conversations with other guests and as a non fisherman I gained some level of introductory knowledge during the relaxed breakast.
All of the guests I conversed with were returnees and seemed keen for me to be economic with spreading the word about this hidden gem lest it get overrun with visitors who may disturb the fish.
In summary this is a place that lifts ones' spirits, where one is genuinely transported to the 19th Century with the convenience and customer service of the 21st. The English lady who welcomed us dserves special mention, we just felt right at home after ten seconds and her masterful non intrusive attentiveness was a masterclass that should be delivered to all hospitality staff.Great experiences are always good value. There is no better value in Ireland.

Room Tip: there are only excellent rooms

Let's be honest. Michael Wade had a hard act to follow. Peter Mantle ran Delphi Lodge with a mixture of charm and efficiency for many years. The new manager of this delightfully-situated fishing lodge is a proud Dub who readily admits that he has little experience in the hotel business. But Mr Wade is doing a good job. Delphi remains one of the most delightful small hotels in the country. There's that amazing view, of course, and a French chef who clearly knows more than his onions. The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. Fishing is the main event here, but you'll also find excellent hospitality.

The Delphi Lodge is a grand classic fishing lodge and the Delphi Team make every effort to make you feel like you have just been “invited” for your stay there. Fishing is the real specialty of this Lodge and David McEvoy is a knowledgeable and skilled host to all who are there for that purpose. However, after the days end the hidden gem of this place is revealed in the evening dinner which has the feel of a grand house party. The evening begins with before dinner drinks and canapés at 7:30, with your delightful host Michael Wade who is on hand to make introductions. Then on to the dining room where you are seated at a huge old oak dining table (28 guest on the nights we were there). The houseparty atmosphere continues over an excellent dinner prepared by Chef Pascale Marinot who has paired the dinner with a perfect wine selection. After a perfect dinner it was on to drinks and coffee/tea with handmade chocolates in another lovely room. Here we enjoyed lively conversations with our fellow guest who came to the Delphi Lodge like us from different parts of the world. Do not miss the rare opportunity to discover for yourself this Hidden Ireland gem.
