Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: The Lost Valley offers a unique window into the cultural heritage of the west of Ireland. Indeed it is itself arguably the finest memorial of the Great Irish Famine that remains today. As The Lost Valley is an active working farm, visitors can experience life on the farm with pet lamb feeding for younger adventurers, a working sheep dog demonstration and a sheep shearing demonstration in season on request. Meeting point/Reception is located at the lost valley - Silver Strand, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

We were staying in Aillemore and spotted references to the Lost Valley in the visitors book. The tour is a fantastic, educational way to spend a few hours. The trip through the ruined Uggool village was very poignant and the story of human suffering told in that setting will stay with us. Gerard and Maureen were wonderful. Suitable for the whole family, just wear sensible footwear and be prepared for a bit of rain. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful afternoon. Despite the rainy weather, we have enjoyed the tour and talks very much. For us it seems an area of extraordinary beauty, but we understand it is not always easy to live and survive here. Gerard and Maureen have revealed a lot about the history, the nature and the life at Uggool. We appreciate the touching stories, these gave a much better and broader view on Irish history. We hope the Bourke family will continue this tours for many years. A big thank you.

The Lost Valley is amazing. The breathtaking beauty of the place juxtaposed with the brutal reality of poverty and famine times really makes you really think and reflect on life. Gerard Bourke is a brilliant storyteller and entertains while weaving his way through the valley. He knows his history and you can feel that he is part of the land he is standing on. The walk is very doable for all ages and the pace is easy with lots of stops along the way. Also a stop for tea, scones and biscuits. Weather was beautiful which was an added bonus. I would highly recommend a visit to The Lost Valley.

I would like to thanks Gerard and his wife for the most amazing trip back through time. A very detailed and factual set of stories and information which was presented by Gerard as if he lived back in those famine times.
His passion on the subject of the famine, before, during and after brought a tear to my eyes.
I can't wait to bring more of my family and friends to this wonderful place again soon.

Thanks again
