The drive to the Locanda sets a tasteful tone, a long avenue of trees amongst immaculate olive groves up to the russet coloured buildings. We were upgraded to a suite, which was a good start - a lovely light room & impressive bathroom (no bath but huge shower.) Excellent toiletries. The one thing which was irritating were the double sinks; looked great but were far too shallow, the taps too high so consequently major splashing was unavoidable. Everything is immaculately co-ordinated & could grace an interiors magazine. We loved the public areas, grounds & pool (there's a separate one for kids, great idea) Staff were helpful although seemed a little stressed at times. We didn't use the spa, but treatments didn't seem ridiculously over-priced. There is a conservatory style restaurant, where we ate once. Food is a modern take on local produce, portions are small for Italy, & relatively expensive compared to other terrific meals we'd eaten. Somewhat lacking in atmosphere, we chose to go out for successive dinners. Breakfasts were styled as if for an Instagram account, but actually were not that easy to access in the cramped bistro area particularly when really busy. There was plenty of choice; fresh orange juice but other juices weren't - inexcusable at this level. Other things that grated were the fact that they charge for everything they can, there is no generousity of spirit. Cycles, use of saunas & the hammam for example. We spent 3 nights here but unfortunately for us coincided with an American wedding party which was gradually arriving in time to take the whole place over at the weekend. We felt increasingly marginalised, particularly at breakfast when we felt like gatecrashers. It was all staff could do to keep up with their demands, let alone other clients. In future it might be worth management insisting on block booking for weddings, especially as this seems to be quite a large part of the business. There was a lot we enjoyed at Locanda Rossa, but it seemed to lack a dash of Italian hospitality/authenticity; it felt instead like it was auditioning for Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop website.
