We are currently staying at the westin as there is a great deal through expedia due to its recent opening. The hotel is magnificent in true Westin style and its brand new. However, it is in the middle of nowhere so unless you don't intend to leave the resort and pay the over priced meals, then you are better off staying on the other side of the island. They do offer a shuttle to and from Phuket town at 1100, 1500, 1800 and pickup at 1330, 1830 and 2100. But you have to book early as it only seats about 12 people.
We went into Phuket town everyday to have dinner. To compare, for the three of us, we had a massive dinner of local thai food and never paid more than 600 baht - approx AUD60. If you include seafood still get change for 1000 baht.
WARNING - don't go to the seafood restaurant that the hotel recommends which will offer a complimentary car, and is the closest restaurant to the hotel. For a pretty average meal we paid 1500 baht - so you can see the difference.
To be fair, the hotel is magnificent - it is just located miles from anywhere. A taxi to Patong is 600 baht - which is still not bad and takes about 30 - 40 mins.

With out a doubt, at night one of the most beautiful hotels ever built. Sure its a little Disney esq with the rope bridge and water fall but that being said its quite obvious that the Westin as a chain is trying to attract more families then in the past which is fine.

Gay friendly, what does this mean? Im gay and almost every every interaction consisted of three question, You traveling alone? (Shock, horror) You married? you got girlfriend? Why? All of it very pleasant and harmless, but I am curious as to what this banner hotels throw around actually means. In the end I would finally respond to the last question "Im gay" which once got the response of "you don't seem like laddie boy" very very funny!

The hotel is very fair away which is great, but you will pay $65 return to Patong, so don't! (unless you want Suit! Ping pong! or massage!) the hotel has there own limousine and taxi service they rely on which you as a guest pay a premium for which I hope is there only way of insure a regular service and not taking advantage. They will not call for a local taxi for you!

The tour desk is the most disappointing part of your stay at this hotel. A message not just to Westin but all hotels, if you tour desk is run, subsidized or unable to give unbiased advise don't have them standing there in the hotel uniform. Our expectation as scared Western tourist is that we pay a hefty premium to stay with friends that will look after us. A tip, go on the Sea Quest tour, it doesn't go to to Phi Phi but its still great.

Service in Westins as a group is falling but that being said so are there prices. So if you want to feel Royal and like an old friend stay at the Banyan tree. The restaurant staff at the Westin are perfect though!! The staff have been training for two months and on the job training since opening for an additional 2 months so there not going to get much better. Remember they work five ten hour shifts a week for 600 baht, so give them a couple of dollars for good service, it feels good. The service is not five star but its plenty good enough.

The spa was fantastic, have a treatment. I had the Thai massage and for those people like myself who don't like to walk out of the spa feeling like the Gulf of Mexico, thai massage is done without oil. Perfect.

One more tip to the Westin. Very white western tourist like my self who melt in this type of heat need air conditioned respite. Please start air conditioning you public areas again.

MUST DO!!!
Make sure you visit Roseberry new age center. An amazing place run by two of the most talented spa Gurus in the world. You get Banyan tree quality techniques (former Banyan tree spa directors) at a quarter of the price. I spent 2 days with Nikorn which was bliss, he's an amazing man and a great friend. Nikorn was recently been signed to Hay publishing so book a session before he becomes world famous.

Overall , stay its a great hotel!

Westin Siray Bay

Major problems:

* Multiple daily powercuts - 8 in one day
* Leaking air conditioner unit inside my room - water leaked into my suitcase and wet my clothes (fortunately my laptop was not in my suitcase at the time or else it would have been far worse), and this leak was not repaired throughout my entire stay. The reception even stopped answering my phone calls requesting an engineer be sent.
* Shower unit fell off whilst using - had to take a bath instead
* Once you press the "night switch" you cannot turn the lights back on without an electrical engineer messing with the wires in the closet.
* Around 10 mosquitoes and a dead spider in my room upon checkin
* Building work still being undertaken - expect to hear the sound of pneumatic drills digging up the road installing new pipes
* Hotel is built into a cliff/mountain - the hotel uses golf buggy carts to transport guest around, as there are steep hills and dangerous steps if one were to try to walk to their room. Guests are reliant on the hotel to transport them from their room to the lobby, and it's unacceptable for a gust to have to wait 10 minutes for this service. There should be far more buggy carts driving around the hotel to spontaneously pick up a guest as they walk out their room. The guest should not need to phone reception to arrange a time to be picked up to be taken to the lobby/restaurant.
* The ride on the buggy carts is very bumpy over a bridge, and it was scary with the steep climbs the carts have to make in the wet, and the sheer drops down the mountain which one would face is there was a driving mistake/accident: even one of the staff members admitted that she was often scared whilst driving and she had to take a special Westin Driving Test because the resort roads were so dangerous
* Some days I had to call reception 3 times for a buggy cart and waited for over 10 minutes in the rain - in the end hitching a ride with the hotel gardener/cleaner's buggy
* The beach is only accessible down a very steep ramp or taking a set of narrow steps, followed by walking across some rocks - whilst I am fit and able to use the steps, many of the older guests or those with children would find it too dangerous to try to get onto the beach, which is a shame because if you can get to it, the beach is actually quite nice.
* Resort is very isolated - I needed to hire a car during my stay to get around as there are no restaurants or shops within walking distance, and the local area has a gypsie camp or slum next door, so the hotel has to employ many security guards around the resort
* The resort offers a shuttle service to Phuket town, but this is a small 20 seater bus three times a day - this shuttle needs to run much more frequently
* I emailed the hotel manager regarding these issues, however to date have not had a full reply

Major attractions:

* Far away from the sleaze of Patong Beach and isolated on a remote part of the island - therefore it might cater to the more sophisticated traveller who want a relaxing break (except for the problems of above which mean your stay won't be relaxing at all which might indeed relaxing make you very angry)
* The lobby and restaurant has an amazing sea view, and the private beach has nice views of the resort too
* At night the resort looks beautiful with the lighting
* The Westin bed is one of the best I've slept in, better than a JW Marriott, Hilton and at least as good as their sister Sheraton.
* The staff are friendly and do try to the best of their training. However training of the staff should be improved so staff understand international 5* standards: for example sometimes the maid would not replace the shampoo/conditioner/shower gel, only leaving half used bottles. Whilst it is ok to leave the half empty bottles, new ones should also be provided in addition. Equally with the complementary water, the same applies: the maid moved the half used water back and labeled it "complementary" without replacing with new: it's ok to leave the used products, so long as they are replaced with new
* Cheap half price opening rate - if you have to pay the full rate, I would recommend staying at a different hotel

Similar to most reviewers, the soft launch rates were quite a deal, I thought initially. My family and I spent three nights at the Westin Siray. As we knew that the hotel is quite remote with limited shuttle services to the old town, we've decided to rent a car. Which was a great decision really, when one realizes that the hotel is really really far away.
Check-in was a breeze as our room was ready when we arrived. The hotel looked really grand and nice, but that bridge between the hotel lobby and the rooms is a puzzling feature since the buggy had to be extra careful..and they had to slow down whenever the cross the bridge. The corridor towards our room stank, reminded me of sewerage. IT was rather unpleasant but thankfully the stench does not permeates the hotel room. The room was terrific, we had a great view of the sea and the pool. Upon closer inspection, we realized that the rooms weren't designed really well. A pool of water gathers around the sink area even after a quick handwash. There's construction marks near the toilet area as well.
I was really disappointed with their signature Heavenly Beds as well. It was too soft and I had backache after sleeping in it for three nights. The next morning, we had to endure frequent power outage, and Westin doesn't seem to have a generator on standby. It took them a while to resolve the issue.

Dining at The Westin. I thought the food served at Seasonal Treats and EEST was superb. Can't find fault with either save for the portion at EEST. I mean, come on, tom yam gong served in small deep dish, probably for one pax (We had 3 diners).

That said and all, it was a rather relaxing stay at the Westin Siray. It just needs to polish up the exterior and the interior of the resort. They can start with removing construction marks.

Ok, the beach is not happening, i know it was low tide, but it was a mud pit. On the other hand, the hotel and faciliaties are beautiful and even when I hit a rough spot w the aircon in my room, the hotel manager - Wan (she rocks!) made everything right and then some. Thank you again Wan!
