The Pool Cabanas were beautiful and I would reccommend going for this room type. The hotel has wonderful gardens and is very peaceful as a contrast to the world outside of the hotel. The hotel saw from the registration form that it was my daughters birthday and surprised us with a birthday cake via room service! Staff were very helpful execpt at the fitness centre.
Would certainly stay here again

We orignally wanted to stay at the Kata Group Resort, but our travel agent didn't hear back from the hotel so we had to go with our 2nd choice - Centara Karon Resort. The entrance of the hotel was beautiful, it has a very clean and modern Thai feel. It's definitely one of the more "grand" resort in the area. We originally got a Terrace room. When we entered the room, it was a bit smaller than what we've expected and not as "decorated" and comfortable as we thought it would be. Once I turned on the shower, these brown water just kept on pouring out. It wouldn't change back to clear, so we had to call the front desk. While we were waiting for them to "fix" the pipes, the loud music from the outside bar started. It was so loud... that it's almost impossible for anyone to sleep in. So we called the front desk again (at this point, they must have hate us!), and see if we can change room since the pipes are not fixed and the music is just way too loud. The switched us to a nicer and larger room on the other side of the Terrace. This room has a walk in closet and actual bathroom with a tub. We felt alot more comfortable in the new room. Other than the room delima....Phuket is amazing! We live in Hawaii, so we have pretty high expectation for a "tropical vacation". The breakfast every morning was great, it offers good variety. The hotel is also about 5 mins walking distance to the beach. We find the excursions (Phang Ngai Bay, Simon Caberet...etc.) to be a bit pricey, but Phang Ngai Bay was well worth it. I heard Phuket is alot more expensive than the mainland Thailand anyway. I think if you get a nice enough room at Centara Karon beach (something like a suite), you would have LOVED It there. I think it's just unforunate that our first room was not the most pleasant experience. The hotel is also pretty close to a great shopping "plaza" which is located right across by beach, walking towards Kata. We bought alot of home decor back to the States. We only went to Patong once, nothing to see really.... since there were good enough shopping already in Karon. Tuk Tuk from Karon to Patong is also not as cheap as we thought, we only took tuk tuk twice over the course of one week. Phuket is a great place to just relax, chill by the pool and enjoy a cocktail or two.

My wife & i spent our honeymoon here(10 nights). We arrived late New Years Eve only to find the 'gala dinner' more like a kids pantomine.....The entertainment was very second rate, the food was plentyful but not what you would expect from a 4* hotel.(a warmish Euro/Asian buffet).Dont forget this is 'high season' and the hotel was full.....Get to the pool very early in the morning if you want a seat !!!.We found the staff helpful enough.considering we didnt speak any Thai..The room was adequate(Lagoon deluxe) but found the main door to our room was not(the top & bottom corners of the door could be pushed quite easily) this seemed to be standard throughout !.
The hotel Spa was exceptional and generally the hotel was clean and there was plenty of staff.'Happy Hour' drinks are advertised buy one get the same free but you are paying hotel prices & when you get the bill, you are charged for the extra drink ! with 10% service + 7% Vat ADDED.The cost of the extra drink is then removed. So infact you still pay 17% on a FREE DRINK...(management policy apparently)....My advice would be to eat & drink locally, there are some lovely local cheap restaurants.
The hotel grounds are set in lush surroundings and the days pass very peacefully.Personally i would rate this hotel 3* & so did the local people that we met....
P.S.....tipping is very much part of the Thai lifestyle

This is a wonderful venue, which caters well for all members of the family, however, aviod the compulsary new years eve party. We booked our stay mid August 2008 and were aware of the compulsory new years party, however, no one could tell us the cost. We eventually managed to get the cost in December by which time it was too late to change our booking. The cost per person was TBH 4 000.00 and TBH 2 000.00 for children. This adds up to a lot. Note that this charge is over and above your normal accommodation rate. We arrive on the 30th of December and by then the best tables had already gone. We were also advised by email that the dress code was formal and that a suit would be appropriate. At the event on new years eve, we dolled up. When we went down for the event, there were guests in vests and shorts... Hmmmm, did we feel out. Also we had to carry this excess luggage half way round the world when we didnt even need it. We were promised a cultural enlightening event with wonderful music. Yeah sure, I dont know when the dancing boys from Simon Cabaret became "Cultural" but that is what we had. Boys dressed as girls trying to dance. Was rather difficult to explain to our 8 year old what was going on. The other entertainment, was the in house entertainer, who could only win a kareoke competion if he was the only entrant. Also the sound was aweful and the bass was turned way up, so the music was drowned by the bass. The stage could hardly be seen as all the tables had been covered with awings and so the view of the stage was obscured. We didn't get to see much at all. Then there was the food. Well, for a 4 star venue, I expected a lot better quality than we received. There was only on serving point for 600+ guests. The seafood was either over cooked or undercooked and not the freshest. People queued for a long time to get to the food. We ate and went to my Sister-in-laws room on the 8th floor at around 10-30 pm. The view of the fireworks down the lenght of the beach was awesome.

We travel as often as we can. This was our second trip to Asia and our first trip to Thailand. I would go back this venue, as the rest of our stay was excellent, the staff went out of their way to assist you and are exceptionaly friendly.

I did use trip advisor when making the decision to book here and to all those people who have complained about the staffs lack of english, I think you need to consider how good is your Thai???
At least these people are willing to try speak english.

Our overall impression of Centara was mediocre. As part of our stay, a compulsory gala NYE Dinner at 4000 Baht per head was demanded. The local entertainment was OK, but this was drowned out by a 2 man caucasian band attempting covers. The line for the buffet food was a 40 min stand in line wait. Our overall impression was very poor. Our gala dinner lasted under a
hour. More than enough pain.

There was an option in our hotel pkg for a room upgrade upon checkin, this was never spoken of, denied as being on offer. But in the name of Thai politeness I will check Sir, with ten seconds I am sorry fully booked.

Cannot fault the housekeeping or staff for politeness. but left Centara feeling a welcomed sense of relief.
