A superb hotel set in beautiful grounds with three swimming pools each with a swim up bar. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice although you sometimes have to wait for a table depending on what time you decide to eat, however only 5 minutes or so. Everyone so very friendly as usual. We have previously stayed in Patong twice once at Baantai resort and at the Amari coral beach, this time wanted to get out of the fast pace of Patong and so went to Karon just over the hill, a great choice as Karon is beautiful but not as hectic as Patong, a 300 baht Tuk Tuk ride into patong takes 10 minutes and is enjoyable in itself. Ate most nights at the Red onion which is well publicised in trip advisors reviews, the place serves great food at a price you will find very hard to believe. Yes you have to wait for a table sometimes, but hey whos in a hurry on holiday. The two chefs was the other eaterie that was great, sadly its great food at twice the price of the Red Onion. The Hotel have a Bonanza bonus whereby if you purchase 10,000 baht the hotel will put in 5,000, therefore 15,000 is available to spend at the hotel, Drinks, lunch, evening meals, spa treatment.etc. Took advantage of that and it worked out well, basically you are getting a Third off prices that are too high anyway. The main beef is that on the reciepts you sign after having food, drinks etc, you will see a section that says under the price Service Charge 10%, then government tax 7%, then below that there is a section saying TIPS where you decide what to leave. Having already paid a service charge i enquired discreetly with a member of staff as to whether the money reaches them. As we all know the staff are lowly paid and rely on tips, it would appear that if a tip is left it will reach them, however the so called service charge is retained by the hotel. I suppose thats one way of getting their bonanza contribution back. Only a small gripe. But left the maid 100baht on the bed each day and recieved brilliant service, everything spotless, clean towels every day. Nice position for the main road and the beach and the market, and restaurants and bars. Cannot fault the hotel at all ( other than above ) and would recommend to anybody. One tip i would give is, if you can stretch to a Cabana room with Jacuzzi then go for it as they are fantastic, sitting in Jacuzzi at 11pm with a drink in your hand and totally unoverlooked was heaven. Wife had a Spa teatment to help spend rest of bonanza, dissapointed to see quoted price of 1500baht change to 1950baht because of Service charge and government tax. Consequently no tip was left and masseuse not best pleased. Think staff should take matter up with management. Tips should be voluntary not incorperated in all bills.

Room Tip: Cabana rooms are a must.

Dear Valued Guest

Thank you very much for your recent review and valued feedback on Tripadvisor and I am more as happy to hear that you had a great stay with us and enjoyed your Vacation.

For the Tax and Service Charge, we as a company and by law, are obliged to provide the details for both items on all our receipts separately, even we advertise our prices net. For the pay out to my team, I personally can assure you that due to restrictions, yes the Hotel collects on their behalf, however extra Tip from our guests and the Service charge is paid directly to our employees once a month.

Again, we appreciate your feedback I am deeply sorry if the above caused any confusion during your stay and sure hope that we can welcome you soon back to our Hotel and please do not hesitate to contact me directly for any further explanation.

Kind Regards

Andreas Korf
General Manager

We stayed here for 11 days from the 25th july and it was much as described on here,we had a lovely superior room 1817 with excellent views around i loved to sit on the balcony. We had a few rainy days but it didn`t last long. The breakfast was excellent plenty of choice which saw us through till teatime. We mostly ate at the Red onion in the evening but we made sure we where there before 7 otherwise you could find yourself in a queue. We also ate at the Two chefs and had some of the nicest steaks ever and also had a fantastic sunday lunch at Angus O Tooles, then to round off the evening we would go to bannana man at the end of the street for one of his fantastic pancakes.
All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and always had a smile from" captain" the security guard to the chambermaids. The beach at Karon wasn`t one of the cleanest i have seen maybe it was because of rough sea conditions as quite a bit of rubbish would be washed up but we enjoyed the beach as there was a cooling breeze and a bedchair was only 100 baht and i just nipped over the road to the supermarket for a large Chang 45 Bahts were they would open it for you where as the beach vendors flogged a small Singha for 80 bahts. We booked 3 trips with Min( who was to the left of the Angus O Tooles)James Bond island, elephant safari, and the Simon ladyboy show all which we enjoyed thoroughly.I also hired a bike from Nods for 250 baht for the day and went off to see the big buddah which was beautiful.Theres not a lot to do in Karon but a few bars have entertainment elvis and Megan and mj and at the end of the night we would go to Karon sunshine bar opposite apple massage for the strongest cocktails and best irish coffe in Karon. We just loved pampering with beauty treatments at Apple and Happiness massage salons at very reasonable rates.Went to Patong to Hardrock cafe and shopping malls and to people watch at Bangla road from the Parrot bar.We loved karon and would recommend this hotel to our friends, not sure we would go back to Karon as there are so many other places of beauty in Thailand, but would probably try Kata down the road for a change, this is a little smaller and seamed quieter.

We stayed for 10 days at Centara Karon in a beautiful Cabana room and had a fantastic time. We travelled with our 2 kids aged 7 and 9. They stayed with us in the same room sleeping in the other double bed happily. We had heaps of space with 2 outdoor areas part of the room. The complimentary cocktails were a great touch with the room. The grounds and pools were all beautiful. All the staff and services were great. It would have been good if the resort was closer to the beautiful beach but walking through the streets to the beach was a definite Thai experience for the family. Footpaths would have been handy. The proximity to the town meant we ate out almost every night, shopped at the market and had cheap local massages. The weather was great with not much rain but the surf on the beach was a bit much for the kids when combined with the walk to the beach so we spent most of our time at the pools. Seafood@Karon, Papaya and Annas Restaurant (on the beach) were our favourite restaurants.

My partner and I had previously stayed here in September 2010 ( our first time ) and had enjoyed the location and facilities so much that we returned in January this year. This visit we also planned for my parents to join us for the final week. Once again we were impressed with the level of service and friendliness of all staff we came in contact with. Nothing was ever too much trouble - starting with the housekeeping staff right through to the duty manager Jim. The breakfast buffet, whilst suffering a little from lack of variety, was always fresh and plentiful, with the table staff keen to offer any assistance. The omelettes are very tasty and made to order of course.

We stayed the first few nights in a superior room which is the basic room and upgraded to the honeymoon spa suite . You need to be aware when booking, that some superior rooms face the older apartment building next door - not a great view and very hot in the afternoons. Request either a superior room with mountain views or if you wish to pay more try the deluxe rooms which offer a limited executive style club facility. The deluxe rooms though are generally based in the more family oreintated area - hence more noise and people, We have generally found the hotel style superior room is ample for space and locaton . Of course if you have the money, definitely try the honeymoon spa rooms, providing a larger room facing the ocean and a large uncovered deck area with sun lounge chairs and a spa. Warning - the spa water will be a touch brown from the local water, so add some bubble bath mix and all is good !!

The location of this resort is very handy to the centre of Karon and the local beach - much quieter than Patong. I have only eaten the breakfast in the resort, and a few poolside snacks, as the local restaurants are great value with good quality food. I recommend you try the Red Onion at Karon - small Thai cafe/restaurant - you will wait for a table on busy nights, but the value and taste of the food is worth it .

The resort appears to be split in to family friendly areas, and singles / couples areas. The hotel style room area has its own pool, aimed more towards singles/couples and is quieter as a result. The deluxe room area has its own separate restaurant and two pools for families and kids - the concept works well, providing you with ample choice of which environment suits you best. Food in the second restaurant is simple, yet tasty and of good restaurant quality. All pool areas offer happy hours for food and drinks - with swim up pool bars for the hot afternoons.

We tried the spa and health centre and enjoyed a couples romance pack - whilst it was a lot more expensive than the local massage centre, the benefits of a private sauna and jacuzzi, followed by a private aromatic massage together, made it well worth the money and a great romantic experience together.

The resort staff were most respectful and welcoming to my parents ( in their mid 70's) and took great lengths to ensure their stay was enjoyable.

If you are looking for a clean and affordable 4 star resort for families or couples, give Centara Karon a lot of thought - we hope to return again in April 2012 and cant wait to see the friendly staff again . They even remembered us from our last visit - nice service touch !! Enjoy your travels ................................................

Room Tip: request a room overlooking mountains or uprgrade to the honeymoon spa for value and views

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Centara Karon(my husband and 15 month old). Had the most wonderful, relaxing holiday and were very impressed with the facilities at this hotel. We had a deluxe lagoon room which was great. A good size with huge bathroom and plenty of room for king size bed and a cot which the hotel provided for us. The only slight annoyance was that there is no lift so we had the carry the stroller up the two flights of stairs, but no big deal really. Our room was second floor with a view of the lagoon pool and hills behind the resort. We spent most of our stay at the lagoon pool. Fantastic for kids(and adults). This resort is also in a great location, away from the craziness of Patong(but only a 10 min trip) but plenty of restaurants, shops and near the beach. We only visited the beach once for a look, it is lovely but spent our time by the pool.
Ate at the restaurant for breakfast and meals by the pool. Breakfast amazing. Pool food fine. At night we ate at Kai's,Family Seafood Restaurant, Karon Seafood and Red Onion. Not sure what all the fuss is about with the Red Onion though. Plenty of good nice clean restaurants all offering similar food and super cheap.
Great market tue and sat nights at the temple. Worth visiting there.
All in all, an amazing holiday and fabulous property that I would have no hesitations in recommending and am looking forward to return to sometime in the future.
