We had a lovely breakaway for 4 days at this resort.
Everything worked, staff was extremely friendly, sourroundings were nice.

We hardly left the hotel area, so we just relaxed by the pools.

Food was also good (buffet with different theme every night)

Our room was very spacious, and we had a large balcony with ocean view (30sqm)

Just returned from a 14 night stay and will give an honest review!. The hotel is beautiful and in a great setting right on the beach in Karon, it is at the very end but a walk to Karon centre is 10 mins along the beach or 200 baht for taxi ( about £4). The resort is quite spaced out so if you don't like walking you may find it a pain but they have golf carts that will take you from one end to the other. We had a deluxe room in block 6 which is central to pools/beach/restaurants and a 5 min walk from the lobby where free wifi is available. The room was very nice the bathroom was huge and although the beds are firm we didn't find it a problem, other reviewers have mentioned housekeeping issues with towels...there was an occasion we didn't have enough towels but don't feel that this was an issue, the room was always cleaned excellently and any maintenance issues dealt with speedily and the staff are warm and friendly.
We had breakfast every morning and the buffet is extensive and very busy so sometimes you may have to wait 5 mins for a table. We also ate in the Mare Italian which was ok but we preferred the cove but the pizza is very good, the Cove has themed buffets nightly but also can order from the a la carte menu...i had a fillet steak and it was superb!, they also have a dedicated kids menu with all the favourites on.
The pools are great for all the lazy river is fab and also the jumping cliff and water slides and kids and adults all had a great time. There is a pool bar and the staff there are great they will bring food and drinks to your sunbed!. Never had a problem getting a sunbed and there are plenty of umbrellas which you definately need as it was boiling hot...we were lucky with the weather just had a couple of showers here and there.
Went into Patong a few times for 300 baht as the shuttle didn't go at the time we wanted!, Bangla road is an experience not to miss and we did lots of shopping..don't take the first price haggle a bit and walk away you'll get a good deal.
The beach is lovely but red flags were there all 2 wks as they have rip currents, they have a lifeguard on duty who is very good at reading the waves and would often be blowing his whistle at people who were approaching danger. The beach sellers are very freindly and for 70 baht you can get a chilled beer and bring it back to the hotel no problem. We ate a few times at Daeng's at the end of the beach and the food was good and cheap and the Thai people are welcoming, they also have a monkey who loves to have her back scratched!!!
We took the baht bonanza and received about £240 free so the hotel prices were ok, i even went to the Spa for a facial which was superb.
Did a trip to James Bond Island which was good, we booked it in Patong and negotiated on price as it's low season, everything seems to be lower in price but it's still busy, i dread to think what it would cost in high season
So we had a great time and would recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: ask for a high floor to get an unbroken ocean view

We travelled to The Centara Grand a few weeks ago and although the hotel has all the facilities to make a tremendous family holiday we has a miserable time as we were all taken ill at least once (some twice) at different stages of the trip. At first I thought that we were just unlucky however we were with a group of 3 other families 20 people in total and 17 of the 20 people were taken ill (some so bad that a doctor had to be called). In addition to our group I spoke with at least 5 other families who were all suffering from similar complaints so it would be safe to say that the problem was widespread. I understand that gastro type illnesses are difficult to contain however the hotel made no attempt to contact guest's to let them know that the hotel was experiencing a gastro outbreak and an increased degree of caution and additional care would be advisable. It would also have made sense to shut down and disinfect the pools and the kids club and address the way that the food is presented in the buffet restaurants however it seemed that the hotel preferred to ignore the problem altogether. No doubt that the constant stench of sewerage from the front of the resort could have contributed to the general lack of healthiness within the resort.

In saying this the hotel's facilities were great and the staff were truly exceptional so if the hygiene issues are addressed then the hotel is definitely a great option for families.

We recently stayed at the hotel for 11 nights during the July school holidays.

Our boys aged 12 & 9 loved the pools, lazy river and rock jumping wall. The food was lovely and the rooms with balcony and spa were beautiful.

Unfortunately our entire family suffered from vomiting and diarrhea illness which reduced our holiday to only 3 days during which we were all well enough to enjoy ourselves. We only ate at the hotel and were careful not to consume tap water.

To be honest, I am perplexed as to the cause of our illness. Is this a common experience during travel throughout Asia? We spoke to other travellers who reported the same. Needless to say, I was somewhat heartbroken that our holiday panned out this way.

The hotel is lovely, the staff friendly and the location peaceful. My advice, talk to your doctor before you leave home...perhaps, unlike my family, you could avoid illness and enjoy your entire holiday in Phuket.

We stayed at Centara for 15 days and loved it.

Pool facilities where excellent. Kids and adults enjoyed lazy rivers and waterslides. "The rock" for diving where also excellent.
The beach was also nice, although we didn't use it very much, due to seasonal currents and large waves. Karon center is a short walk (5-10 minutes) or 200 bath tuk-tuk drive away.

Our room was superb. Big enough for 4, but not very large. Bathroom was very nice. The balcony had a fantastic view of the ocean and hotel facillities. Cleaning was good and ocurred every day.

Staff where very serviceminded and always smiling. All requests were handled on the spot. Our kids loved the staff at the kids club.

Food was generally good. Service at times somewhat slow during meals. Prices (especially drinks) was expensive compared to outside. To the extent you travel on budget buy soft-drinks outside the hotel and keep them in your minibar.
